Hi everyone, new to the garage journal .
Anyways, I mostly do farm work and general maitince work on equipmemt/pickup truck etc. Looking at getting my first cordless impact and was looking for some opinions
I do need a pretty high torque one for sone jobs so kind of narrowed it down to Milwaukee 2767 or dewalt 899

Are they both equal in your opinion? For sone reason I gravitate towards the Milwaukee but not sure why, I have used a friends dewalt and was impressed.
I was thinking buy the 1/2 inch now with batteries and charger then down the road add a 3/8 compact one for smaller jobs etc.

The ingersoll rand look good but I dont see many around and I would mind getting a few other cordless tools in the future so want to pick a company that offers lots
Just looking for some information

Welcome to the forum from Wisconsin.

Milwaukee makes good tools, hard to go wrong with buying a Milwaukee tool. DeWalt makes good stuff too. I have tools from both those companies, not cordless tools, but regardless, they both make very good cordless and corded tools so you can't really go wrong with either brand.

I have a 20v DeWalt 1/2" cordless impact and it works very well. My Silverado lug nuts are torqued at 140 ft/lbs and this impact easily removes them. I don't use the impact to completely tighten them; I use a torque wrench for final tightening.

I'm in the process of swapping out my corded tools for DeWalt cordless tools. One key thing with any cordless tool is to have at least one extra battery. That way you don't have to wait for a single battery to recharge. I also have two charger units.

Either one is great tool and IMO quite equal both in price and performance

Buy what works for you

Don't know what IR you were considering but there is a newer model now than the venerable 7152,

the 7252 I think it is :headscrat

Of course Makita has a High Torque also

Cant remember the IR number I saw. Yeah makita would be fine as well. Just browsing a tool stores sales and they have the dewalt 899 high torque with 2 batteries 5.0 amp hours and a charger for $389 cad. Milwaukee's arent on sale there but maybe look to see at other stores

Welcome. I don't own either model but have used both and both are great. I own the Milwaukee mid-torque and it is great. I too do a lot of work on farm equipment and the mid-torque has served me well.

I would look at the other tools offered in the platform and see what you might want in the future.

Can't comment on DeWalt but I'm a Milwaukee guy all day because of their customer service. Ship to them for free, the fix it for free and ship it back to me (if under warranty) if not the shipping to them is still free

I have another option: Makita XWT08Z Hi torque brushless. I can't compare it to the others, but I can say it's a beast. I've not found a bolt that it can't remove yet.

I like Makita overall better than both Milwaukee and Dewalt these days. I think their tools are slightly better built and overall better design. They also have a better range of 18V tools including their 18x2 line which is very good.

I can tell you that these newer ones are way better than they were even 10 years ago. I have a 12 year old Milwaukee V28 1/2 impact - which was the best you could buy at the time. It can't hold a candle to the Makita above.

It is said often on here, but look at what other tools there are in the battery platform you're looking at. It would be a serious pain if you bought brand yellow and realized you need something that only team red or team teal offer.

This. I have the Milwaukee stuff, and it's all fantastic so far, but I don't think there's a bad choice between the DeWalt and the Milwaukee. Go with what offers the most things you like/want/need and if it's a tie whatever gives you better customer service options in Canada.

It's hard to believe that DeWalt is doing anything Milwaukee isn't (would be an interesting thread), but it seems like Milwaukee is really doing a ton of things. Cords are an endangered species in my universe...

I agree with looking at the brand offerings. Ryobi has lots and Milwaukee has lots. Maybe Dewalt is next? I have Milwaukee M18 and M12 and some little lights charged through a USB cable.

Yeah Makita is definitely in the running too!. I'm sure I can't really go wrong with any of them. I like my Makita air compressor and they do seem to have a good line of cordless tools. Anyone know where the high torque Makitas are made?

Based on what you said I assume more mechanical work than wood work. If so I would look at Milwaukee as their tools seems to be broader in the mechanical i.e. cordless ratchet.

For the record I have Dewalt tools and a Porter Cable 1/2 impact.

There's a veritable plethora of threads pertaining to this exact comparison here. In addition there are tons reviews and videos not only of the individual tools but comparing as well.

I have both the 1/2" & 3/8" impacts Mac & Dewalt are the same guns with different cases. The red Mac case is more chemical resistant for the Pro services.
I had the Snapon rep show up to demo his new $1000 1200 ft/lb gun. Head to head against my year old Mac. My gun would move the bolt (5/8 dia.) but not break it loose, the Snapon gun would not even move it.

Mac/Dewalt guns have my vote hands down.

I had the same decision, my son in law has the IR cordless stuff and they are really nice tools but they don't offer the selection of tools that other companies do. I settled on the Milwaukee for that reason and have been VERY happy with all of them. I have a lot of the 18v and 12v tools and love them.

I have both a Milwaukee and a DeWalt. I don’t remember the model numbers. Both are stout. I have mostly DeWalt stuff, but I’d say the Milwaukee feels a little bit better built. You can’t go wrong with either, so it comes down to which one can give you a better deal. Also, are you already in a particular platform for your power tools. My neighbor is in Rigid, and has a Rigid 1/2 impact.

It seems Milwaukee has more mechanic power tools than DeWalt.

The miluakee 1/2 fuel is unreal 1400ft/lbs of torque I can bust combine front wheel bolts with it. Also grab the 3/8 fuel pretty Torky for the weight of her.

Yeah I hear about how strong they are, I've used a friends dewalt high torque and it really is powerful and the Milwaukee is even stronger.

This would be the first of my own cordless tools, So thats why I'm putting some more thought into it, And I am mostly into mechanical rather than wood work

The Milwaukee 2767 is a newer generation impact that was designed to eliminate the need for a 3/4 impact in a automotive shop. Farm machinery is different, if you have no 3/4 impact, the Milwaukee might be the better choice. A brush mower blade bolt nut for example takes a 1 11/16" socket. The 2767 might take it off or might not. If if you have a 3/4 impact , the Dewalt or Makita would work. I like the speed selector better on the DeWalt/Mac

I currently have the older 2763. Basically a one speed impact used for taking stuff off only. I have 3/4" and 1" impacts so I am not sure if I want to buy a 2767 if the older Milwaukee quits

I like the looks of the new Snap-on but it would have to fall off the truck and be half price or less before I would consider buying one. Good luck with choosing cordless, another handy tool around the farm is a 5" cordless grinder. Makita and Milwaukee are the favorites

Well I purchased the Milwaukee 2767 kit! I was kind of down to that or the IR w7152 and I really did like some of the features on the IR but Since Milwaukee has so many other tools that I might want in the future I went with them.

Waiting for the battery to charge right now but I like the feel of it in my hands and looks like a powerful tool. I'm quite exited to use it !

I have used both at work and through different friends and I would defiantly go with Milwaukee on this one. If you want sheer power and reliability. The Milwaukee does get heavy on the arms after an extended time of use. I have dropped this impact off of ladders and vehicles onto concrete and it always performs like it should. If you're ever worried about breaking a bolt, you can adjust the power in four different power modes. Check out my review on the Milwaukee 1/2" impact: https://automotive-unlimited.com/milwaukee-cordless-impact/
