1/2" cordless with best chuck

I am not obcessed with having the latest and greatest power tools. I will stick with what I have for years, making repairs as necessary. When the time comes, then I look into the latest innovations. I have been toying with the idea of getting a new 1/2" drill driver. I do not need the weight or cost of a hammer drill. On the rare occassions that one is needed, I have my old corded Milwaukee. brushless is fine but the feature that most concerns me is the chuck. I have never had a keyless chuck that held worth a damn. I followed the recent issues with Milwaukee drills with runout problems. I have limited experience with what is available. Which one comes with a good chuck? I don't want to buy something that I have to retrofit with Rohm. What is good out of the box? Anything come with a Rohm or other good chuck? Thanks.

The Makita XFD07 has an excellent Japanese-made Yukiwa chuck.

I was watching AvE tear down a Makita and he was really impressed with the chuck. The whole drill looked really nice.

+1 on the Makita XPH07. I use and abuse mine daily and it keeps on trucking. Heavy duty chuck. Has as much power as most corded drills and the hammer drill mode is excellent too.

Probably any all-metal chuck on a cordless drill will suit your needs. I believe the M18 FUEL Milwaukee drills have metal chucks as well.

I read the AvE review and I picked up on the Makita three strikes and you are out control board. I did a little research and I got a bunch of hits on this problem. They are diy repairable and you apparantly can buy a new board after replacing any bad cells you might find. Apparantly the first two sets of cells, 7.2volts, is used to run the control board and tend to discharge faster than the rest of the pack. The big issue is if the board detects too low a total voltage three times it will never attempt to charge the pack again. The attempt count can also be incremented by trying to charge a hot battery in a cold environment This is concerning. Is this an issue with other brands?
On the positive side, there is a new 5Ah pack that is no bigger than the 4Ah and now has the fuel gauge on the battery.

Got rid of all the Bosch drills at work due to slipping chucks. Having excellent results with Menards Mastercraft drills. They are all metal and grip taps very well.
