1/2 Deep Impact Socket Set, Sunex?

Somehow, I have made it wrenching for 20+ years, without needing a set of 1/2 drive deep impact sockets.
The time has come, and my other impact sets are Sunex, but all over 20 years old. In that time I have failed 2 of them, a 7/8 shallow, when doing a lot of bottom end work on 3406 Cat motors, and a 15/16 deep (probably the most used one of the all) that finally cracked. Both warranted by the place I got them, now long out of business.

Does Sunex still make a good set for the money? Best place to buy?

NAPA sells and warranties them under their own name. Still good sockets.

I order both 1/2 drive master sets when they were offering the rebates. I have used them a good bit including replacing rusty leaf springs on my f250 where i broke 2 sk breaker bars and 2 craftsman (usa) 1/2 ratchets but the sockets were fine. I just used them tonight to take a rusty plow frame and front bumper off a friends 99 f250 7.3. Every bolt needed a breaker bar and we sheared a lot of the bolts in half in the process. Almost no signs of wear on the sockets. Would buy them again in a second.

Ive been pleased with my Sunex set. Still good quality and good customer service if you ever do have a problem.

i also have Tekton impact which i tend to use a bit more (cause i have them on trays vice the box the sunex are in) and they have been good as well.

Uhhhhh.........I have a set of Harbor Freight 1/2" deep impact sockets and can have them to you tomorrow. Or Monday. I bought them for the 1/2" electric impact wrench you gave me but if you haven't needed 1/2" deep for 20 years I sure as **** don't see me needing them. lol Let me know.

They are OK but the Snap On impacts seem better. Both will take stuff off, but if you've used both you'll know what I mean. Snap On's are less clunky and light/ hollow sounding.

Grey Pneumatic is nice but I like the fact that the sizes on the Sunex are both embossed and printed. My 1" deep well GP socket is hard to read the size on.

The GP sockets are also embossed and printed, one on the opposite side from the other. A white crayon can be used to fill in the smaller embossed number to make it much more visible.

I've never seen a Grey Pneumatic socket with the size stamped on it. That's why I choose Sunex over Grey Pneumatic.

Sunex impact sockets are quality tools at an affordable price. I just got in on the rebates they were offering a few months back. Impressed with the quality, dual markings, storage cases and cr-mo over cr-v like the cheaper ones out there. As I have said here before Sunex only makes a few impact sockets that are not lifetime warrantied and they are the thinwall sockets. We buy the 19/21 mm thinwall flips and issue them to our tire techs and they might only crack one a year with daily use (aka abuse) in a multi-million $ tire shop.

Exactly... People are obsessed about getting the fancy Snapon mac and Matco sockets because of their lifetime warranty and quality but I have yet to break any socket that I have ever used... I even use the cheap generic flip sockets that the company I work for supplies and they never break. I've used them to break studs etc too with a IR 2235 I feel like Sunex is the best quality vs value you can get.

You are correct, I was confusing them with another socket set I had. Etched on both sides.

Hmm, maybe I've never used impacts that were that crappy.

While the snap on are nice, very good flank drive sockets when fresh and new, the drive end and the fastener end does wear quicker seemingly than a GP or Sunex or a matco US and ADv.

High majority of my sockets are snap on and I end up getting the impact ones warrantied out for wear not breakage. Occasional use would be a non factor. This is daily use on impacts.

I have the Sunex sets in SAE and Metric, 6 & 12 pt and have never had a issue.

Sunex is good stuff. I do dislike however that they arent broached to hold a ratchet all to well. THey have a hole you line up with the ratchet detent and then it wont come off easy.

For the price, sunex is $ but great stuff. I like the HF pitts pro set. Good and cheap, but they are printed sizes not stamped. Course there is always stanley, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000NIKA4U/?tag=atomicindus08-20 I bought that set eons ago at walmart for road use and trust me I beat them to hell and back and they still havent worn out or busted. I filled in the sizes it doesnt have either online or locally. For the price it was insanely hard to beat.

Sunnex impact sockets are awesome. I own the 3/8", 1/2" and 3/4" masters sets. Never broke one,even ones I ground down. Even with saying that, I find the 3/8" and 1/2" generally on the thin side which is a plus.
