Seems the first half of the smaller sizes would never be used. 10mm 1/2 impact. Really? Ya'll ever use that?

Know of any sets that start at a more reasonable size and maybe goes a size or three larger? Or maybe I'll spring for a 3/4 set and use an adapter. Or maybe I'll just buy one socket as I need it.

Guess I'm just fussing.

Are you short the space to have a full set? Your comment made me go look at my 1/2" deep impacts. 10mm-38mm 25pcs. My 10mm has some wear.

3/4 set and an adapter sound good. I have that but they are cheapies, which is ok since I seldom need them.

One of the main reasons for having an impact set is speed. For reassembly I have a 3/8 drive air gun and a good old set of Craftsman 3/8 impact sockets.

I used a 1/2 10 mm the other day. I was working with a range of sizes and didn't feel like grabbing two ratchets.

I'm not sure what sizes you're looking for, but using a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter will reduce your impacts power. Why not just buy a cheap 1/2" set and toss the sockets you don't want/need?

The smaller sizes are handy if you don't have 3/8" impacts or don't have them handy or need something a little longer than a 3/8" impact.

I only have 1/2" and 3/4" impact sockets. Even my small sizes get used.

I have been wanting to get a set of 3/8" impact sockets. Preferably, a set that does not skip sizes.

I'm on the side of the OP. No point in anything smaller than 15mm on 1/2" drive impacts any 3/8" drive impact will remove any bolt with less than a 15mm head and if it doesn't you need a torch not a 1/2" impact. 1000 ft-lb Aircat 1250 on a 10mm fastener seems like a very quick way to break a fastener. I've always wondered why manufacturers (In my case TOPTUL) didn't make what I called rationally sized impact socket sets. 3/8" drive from 10mm to 15mm and 1/2" drive from 16mm to 32mm. Match the hammer to the nail is my view on this.

I use 8mm 3/8 just about every day. I use 10mm 1/2 occasionally. I have a 9mm 1/2 for vw clutch plates. I also use 3/8 up to 24mm.

I use 14mm 1/2 all the time for gas tank straps.

Rational is different between diy and professional.

I use almost all the 1/2 drive smaller sockets 10-16 mm or 3/8 to 5/8 with wobble extensions, also having a full set helps if strip bolts or nuts for hbl (heat beat lube)method

I have a small cp 1/2" impact to go along with my big one, it's very light, not a ton of torque, I use it with the smaller sizes for removing panels on equipment and such, I never believed in the 3/8" impact as that would mean buying and storing another set of impact sockets.

I have a 1/2" drive 8mm socket that came in the set I have, I don't use metric stuff very often and have likely never used that socket

Depends what you work on I guess, I work on drilling equipment that sees the harshest abuse of any type of equipment or vehicle, combined with harsh Canadian north weather, tons of panels to remove to access hydraulics, electrical etc, panel bolts are generally small but become seized if not removed semi often, so the smaller impact sockets I have (sae mostly) do get used time to time, usually 7/16" and up.

I've been looking for a long time and haven't found and American company that offers a set like the OP wants. Your options are to buy:
1. Axle nut set for larger sizes
2. Mid-range (10mm-24mm / 5/16-1 1/4)
3. Buy a comprehensive set(10mm-36mm / 3/8-1 1/2)

I've been stuck on this issue for awhile. Really, I'd like to buy a 3/4" set but the selection of 3/4" ratchets is not ideal.

TENEX the selection of 3/4" ratchets in my opinion are non-existent. The normal length of a 3/4" ratchet is 20 inches which in my opinion is ridiculously short. I'm considering importing three tools from TOPTUL to address this issue. These are:

http://www.toptul.com/s/2/product-3...ith-Adjustable-Tube-Handle-Quick-Release.html

Which is an extendable ratchet that goes up to 800mm

http://www.toptul.com/s/2/product-325247/Extra-Long-Swivel-Handle.html

This is a 40" long breaker bar.

http://www.toptul.com/s/2/product-3...ith-Adjustable-Tube-Handle-Quick-Release.html

This is an extendable breaker bar with a locking socket release.

I'd like to gauge if there is any interest in these tools as that will determine whether or not I order any of them. So tell me do these tools seem like they would be good sellers as the market for 3/4" drive tools seems inadequately represented considering what 3/4" drive is used for.

I have the Sunex 2646 Deep 1/2" metric set and use the smaller sizes. My only impact wrench (18v) is 1/2" drive so it's handy to put a 10mm on it when I need one...

This. I only have 1/2 drive impacts and 10mm fasteners are everywhere on my Asian vehicles.

Well, if you have the 1/2" out already, then the smaller sockets get used.

I get what the OP is saying and I also see the counterpoint opinion as well. I sometimes forget that not everyone has the tool selection that some of have. I am fortunate to have 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" impact sockets and use all of them often. I do tend not use any 1/2" drive under 17 mm as I prefer to use the 3/8" if I can due to size of impact. Same goes with the 1/4" drive.

3/8" impacts are great to have. Very handy.

I use my 1/2" impact for pulling wheels off. 99% of the other stuff I do I use 3/8" impact. Almost never use a 3/4" drive socket, ratchet or impact. The last job I had (over 25 yrs ago) I used a lot of 3/4" and 1/2" and 3/8" I opt for the smallest drive size for the compactness and ease of handling. I use way more 1/4" and 3/8" than 1/2" with the exception of wheels on and off.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to see I'm not the only only one whose scratched their chin on this one. I'm just a DIY. Already have 3/8 impact sets. Was just going ugh about the overlap. I'll order the cheap tekton metric and sae sets and just deal with accept it. Imagine I will use the breadth at times.

Update - I buy the SAE and Metric sets of Harry-home-owner adequate quality. The very first one I use... 3/8. Too freaking funny. Needed to persuade some self-tapping fasteners through two pieces of angles iron. The socket and tool attached to it were perfect.
