The 17mm could have been handy for certain Honda side motor mount nuts. Given the cost, I struggle with the idea of buying the entire set. What other automotive applications require extra-deep impact sockets like these?

Ironworker here. We use them a lot on column anchor bolts that the $^%$^$ GC installed with too much projection. We also make our own with welded in pipe for the ones that even the extra deep won't reach.

Not automotive, but thought I'd share.
We use them for long U Bolts holding on brackets for safety netting on pallet rack.

You have to have an extra deep 10mm for rear bumper covers on Mercedes-Benz vehicles sometimes, but those are 1/4” or 3/8” drive
