I am trying to find a 1/2" Dr socket set in sae and metric deep and shallow for junk yard / road bag. I have looked around with no luck it could be USA or oversees set

or would it be cheaper and easier to get individual sets of the diffident types of sockets.

What is your budget? If you don't have impact sockets; buying inexpensive import sockets might be a good option; this would give you the additional option of impacts in your tool arsenal. This would kill two birds with one stone: inexpensive, add impacts to your set. HF, Stanley at Walmart or many other places are possible places to look; if anything... cheap sockets are everywhere these days. If you are cash poor and time rich: look in pawn shops, fleas markets, garage sales etc.; then of course, with the price of gas.. are you really saving money?
Each one of us has to decide themselves what our priorities are: quality, price, time used to look for things, gas consumed etc.; what is the most important to you?

I carry a set of SAE HF Pittsburgh impact sockets in 1/2 drive in my truck. I use them with a HF breaker bar for tightening anchor bolts, building steel and and concrete anchors around the job site. Super cheap, lifetime warranty and I wont be out much if I loose them or they get stolen. They aren't the best but for beating around in the dirt they are hard to beat.

This question to me is confusing. Actually I'm just confused on why you can't find anything. If you just want a cheap 1/2" set, they are everywhere. I don't get it, buy one and throw it in the car! Now if you want a great set at a cheap price, this changes the question....

I'd check on flea-bay.
There's still quite a bit of NOS Truecraft socket sets (USA & Japan) being sold off.
Pretty decent quality for NOT a lot of money.

NO affiliation to ANY e-bay Truecraft sellers.

Watch for a sears sale or check out cripe distributing online and on ebay. They have some fairly cheap 1/2 drive allen and gearwrench sets.
