Why the preference for Cr-V impacts over Cr-Mo?

I thought Cr-Mo was established as superior for impact stuff, and it seems to be what all the big dogs build their sockets out of.

Metal composition is only part of the story. Both can be made poorly or good. I too prefer Cr-V as it tends to not suffer as much damage in a work environment. My Cr-M sockets both tool truck and Taiwan have not held up at the drive end or the fastener end as well as Cr-V. But make your decision on the impact socket on the whole, design & pro features are important too IMO.

I stopped by Northern Tool yesterday to use my latest coupon and went to look at their impact sockets. They are moving production from Taiwan to China and removing the higher end features we've been talking about. That is a disappointing development.

Because cr-v of good grade and proper tempering doesn't wallow out like cr-mo.
Main reason most main brands use cr-mo is fact it easier make a safe impact socket rather than it actually better .
