Yes, yes, I'm aware Snap-on makes them. I have a few.

But I'm looking for a different brand, a bit cheaper. My go-to suppliers would be Sunex/GP; however, I can't find anyone who makes them.

Low demand, I guess? :dunno:

1/2 drive, Semi-Deep, Impact (no use for chrome) - Who makes them besides SO?

Pretty sure SK makes a set, I have a SK 3/8" impact semi deeps set and am happy with them, wouldn't hesitate at all buying a 1/2" set

For something like that I would buy a cheap set of fully broached deep impact sockets, whip out the chop saw and a jug of water, and ten minutes later have exactly the length I wanted. Honestly though, between short, deep, and swivels, what do you need semi-deeps for?

I use my semi-deeps and swivels 99% of the time.

Shallow and deep impacts have became my "specialty" sockets for that 1% of the time where access is an issue, such as engine mounts and crank pulley bolts.

In 1/2 inch drive?! If you've got room for 1/2 inch tools, an extra inch of socket isn't an issue.

I have some sunex semi deep 3/8" impacts; I'd assume they also have them in 1/2". Good sockets but I can't stand the feel of the rough finish.

Genius Tools 15 Piece Metric Semi-Deep Thin Wall Impact Socket Set
SKU DI-415M

Also, you might look into Koken:

Didn't think about Genius. I have some triple-square bits from them, they're alright so I imagine Genius can handle making impact sockets.

$60 from amazon seems just right to me.

I've seen SK semi-deeps in 1/4 and 3/8, but not 1/2 impact. Anyone got a link? Google searching isn't getting me very far; this thread is on the first page. :lol_hitti

Hate to say it, but it often is. Otherwise all 1/2 drive sockets would be deep well only.

I'm not questioning the need for more than deep, that's why there are shallow. I'm questioning the need for semi deep in half inch drive. Someone can give me a real reason I'm all for it, there can never be too many tools. I have just never come across such an issue.

Wheel bearing hub bolts with large CV bolts. Shallow plus swivel is too bulky, swivel is too short, deep doesn't fit. Idea is to have semi-deep socket come out to thickest point of CV boot, the swivel adapter can plug in there, maximum room.

Front strut mounting bolts. Nut sticking through requires at least a deep. Semi deep would allow more clearance.

Also, Chevy truck up control arm bolts for alignments. Shallow just barely fits, no room for deep.

Mac makes some that are US made and come in a impact version. I don't know how much cheaper than Snap On they are though.

SK does NOT make 1/2" Mid-length/Semi-Deeps in chrome or impact.

Not sure what the use of a 1/2" mid-length set would be. I saw that the larger sizes in the 3/8" Sunex Mid-Length impact set were just standard length 1/2" drive sockets with a 3/8" drive machined in (5/8"-1" to be exact).

Been wanting some mid length & trying to justify the purchase. I've run into all these situations

Well, I won't tell your wife, so whatever reasoning you want to use should be good enough. I guess I've just always accepted those eight or so bolts as the reason I've got all those shiny ratchets. I'll keep those on file though, just in case, ya never know when you'll suddenly be hit with the urge to buy some tools.
