First post, I have been reading and learning for awhile. I need some 1/2 drive sockets. Should I get chrome or impacts? Are there any benefits either way? My thought is just get impacts and then I can use them with air tools or a ratchet. Let me know what the GJ thinks.

The problem with using impact sockets is, clearance, or the lack thereof...
Impact sockets are much thicker.

I have 12 point chrome, and 6 point impact, that covers everything I need.

Thanks for the info. I need to take off an axle nut torqued to 175 ft lbs can chrome handle that? I assume I am in breaker bar territory to get it off.

Another Option is Chrome Vanadium impacts sockets, They are generally much thinner than there Moly brothers.

The best combo IMO is shallow chrome and deep impact sockets. I don't remember the last time I needed a shallow 1/2" impact socket.
