Since I can't resist free batteries :pimpflash I bought another bosch cordless tool; this time a 1/2" impact wrench. Really wanted a 3/8 but they're $100 more (WTF!) than the 1/2" so...

Anyway, I'll want to drive bits so need an adapter. Half-hour of google and amazon finds 3. Anyone out there have experience with these? Or have a better recommendation?

Milwaukee: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KKBBR4/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Wera: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003KN3FVA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

And Wera has an adapter to use regular bits: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003KN3FYW

Funny, I found that Apex page but it totally slipped my mind when I was typing up my post - I guess the Wera catalog drove me off the deep edge (I just hate the new "active" catalogs)...

Apex only seems to offer holders for insert bits, not power bits. I do lots of torx and insert bits always get stuck in the screw - kills the time-saving advantage of the driver.

I would get something that is designed to handle a 1/2" impact wrench; APEX bits and holder should do the trick... these are REAL professional/industrial grade tools...

It's handy to have -- especially while you're waiting for the regular impact driver's batteries to recharge. I have one made by Hitachi -- seems hard to imagine something this simple failing. Mine was $9 from Amazon, although it's out of stock right now.

There was a guy on here a while ago that had a dewalt hex bit driver and wanted a 1/2" or 3/8" impact. He found the illustrated parts lists for the two and they had the same end, just one was hex and one was 1/2" square. He ordered the part, I want to say around 20 bucks but I can't remember. Switched them out. Not sure if bosch would be similar or not but that is another option if you want a dedicated hex driver.

Already thought of that.

I have the dedicated 1/4" hex impact driver. I don't think you could go from a driver to a wrench and be happy with it - it's a different class of product. But going from a wrench to a driver can be easily done with a bit of trigger finger control.

The 3/8 & 1/2" impact wrenches are the same to each other except for the nosepiece assembly. Bosch wants $70 for it. Waiting for the "**** I dropped it and broke it" items to start appearing on the bay.

I stopped at Lowe's earlier today on a whim, and found the Dewalt driver. It's going back. The 1/4" hex is closer to 5/16". I have drills I've dropped off roofs onto concrete driveways that have less runout. Sad...

Yeah, I can't imagine it failing either. Bit will shatter/crack/deform long before this much metal.

The Bosch battery deal ensures I'll have an infinite battery supply. 3 tools, 8 batteries - 4 fatpacks and 4 slimpacks (freebies). 2 chargers - 30 minutes, even for the fatpacks. I don't think I can run them down fast enough if I tried...

It's more of a don't want to change bits in the middle of a job kind of thing. A more expensive form of ratchet-disease... :shocking:
