I have an IR2135 that gets used every day. It just quit on me this week after nealry seven years of constant use with no previous trouble. I bought an Aircat 1150 and had it shipped next day because I didn't have the luxury of time to disassemble and order parts for the IR. When I do have the time I will get it up and going and expect another seven years.

They hit different. If I had to choose 2235

2235 hits hard and slow. 2135 hits faster but slightly less power. IMO I have both

I'd say its the 231, there's a reason why it's still in production since LBJ was in office.

Yeah, and the 1911 is still produced, doesn't mean it is the most advanced or best for all applications.

A better comparison would have been the M16. LBJ, Vietnam, M16.... Nevermind...

Plus, the 1911 could work in all applications if you really wanted to.

Don't get me wrong, the 231 is a good, solid, strong gun. But that said it's heavier than a 2135 TiMAX and isn't as strong, plus it will be cold as hell in the winter if you work in a northern climate and outside or in an unheated space.

I haven't used a 2235TiMAX yet so I can't comment, but on paper I'd have to pick it. I have used a lot of 2135s though, and I've owned one for 5 or 6 years and it's be nothing less than perfect.

So what's your opinion on both of them? Which is more powerful?
IR 2135 - 1100 ft lbs max. 780 ft lbs wk tq 2135QXPA $183.80 on eBay. 2135TImax $248.95 eBay
Aircat 1150 - 1295 ft lbs max. 200-950 ft lbs wk tq. $163.19 on eBay.

Aircat gets good reviews everywhere you look. The price and performance cannot be beat. You get more ft lb of torque per dollar with an Aircat than any Ingersoll Rand. Here's an interesting read. http://thewrencher.com/aircat-1150-review-vs-ingersoll-rand-2135timax-review/

This part doesn't sound promising..

And I always thought guns had max power in reverse not forward. That article says other wise? :dunno:

That article is blurry and cannot be read, but I always thought reverse was more powerful as well. Generally you tighten up a fastener or nut/bolt with an impact, then use torque wrench to tighten it to proper specs. Reverse you want full power so no matter what you'll get it off.

I'm not sure why it's coming up blurry but this part..

About the AIRCAT 1150 Killer Torque, people have however complained about the fact that the torque does not go as up to 1295 foot-pounds. Their opinion is that it reaches somewhere around the mark of 500-600 foot-pound. Truth to be told, it is pretty high, but the product works wonderfully, so you don’t really notice that. It does its job pretty well, so even though the numbers written might be too big, it’s not that noticeable.

I've been super happy with my 2135QTiMAX. I like the Q models (quiet) with the built in muffler. It's small and very ergonomic and everything you need in a 1/2 impact.

Aircat tends to interchange max torque and "Nut busting" torque as being the same thing which they are not. Also, keep in mind that there is no standard when measuring torque, i.e. run time, bolt size lubrication, joint rate, etc all effect the final torque, also Aircat at one point was rating their tools at 120 psi vs everyone else who uses 90 psi.

But where does it talk about the direction and forward being more powerful?

than the other.

The Ingersoll Rand 2135TiMAX offers a speed of 9800 rpm, a maximum reverse torque of 780 foot pounds and a forward torque of maximum 1100 foot-ponds, while the AIRCAT has a speed of 9000 rpm and a torque of 1295 foot-pounds. The AIRCAT obviously has a bigger torque power, doubling the other. They both have a drive size of 1/2 inch.

I know kind of why I don't buy into the hype.

Are you back with IR?

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I have an IR 2135 and love it, but will report I've had my 231 since 1983 (its not been used daily) and the 231 sounds like a well tuned Ferrari when you pull the trigger. Everytime that I've used the 2135 because the 231 couldn't loosen the fastener, the 2135 tore the head of those bolts off.

I have both the 2135 and 2235 in QTiMax, So glad I shelled the extra money for them, the only sound you'll hear is the hammer action.
