Does anybody use 1/4" air impacts? I've got a Matco MT1745 that I bought new and have never found a time when I wanted to grab it. It's a composite handle gun and seem well made, but maybe it's just habit, I'll grab a 1/4" air ratchet every time.

I have a Snap-On 1/4" air ratchet and a Blue Point 1/4" gun and use both quite a lot when working on small engines and motorcycles.

I use my IR a fair bit and my M12 Fuel quite a bit as well... almost never use my 1/4" air ratchet.

^^^^I love my snap-on 1/4" air ratchet (have 2), but for some reason, I can't remember or avoid the Matco 1/4" air impact gun.

genuine question here.
when you guys are using a 1/4 air tool, is it generally because of tight spaces? or is it more so for the lower torque? I find myself using my 7.2 volt electric 1/4 bit driver with sockets and an adapter on it for removing panel and trim bolts, but never really ever thought to use a 1/4 air tool before.

I use a FAR25 to break down a lot of motorcycles and it is usually has enough torque, it's lighter AND gets me in more places than a larger impact...plus I have a small compressor :dunno:

I've found the newer the cars the smaller drive size I use. 3/8 used to be the most common, I've moved to 1/4 inch now. I can generally take apart the top half of a motor using 1/4

I had a Blue Point 1/4" air impact but sold it. More power out of my M12 cordless, smaller size and no hose to drag around. Use the cordless 1/4" daily.

Still use my 1/4" Cornwell air ratchet. The cordless versions will have to shrink down quite a bit before I let it go.

I use mine quite often to drive 5/16" hex head sheet metal screws when I am replacing quarters panels, rear body panels etc. The screws hold the panels in place temporarily for welding and gluing.

I used to use it for tear down purposes on collision damage as well. It has replaced by an M12 Fuel 1/4" impact wrench for tear downs/

Even if I had one, I would never use it. Any 12v impact now a days works wonders taking apart cars.

I use mine a lot, under the hood, anywhere I am working with small fasteners. I turn it down to 2 and use it on dash screws and other small screws even hose clamps.I have much more control than i do with a cordless impact
