That looks like the 2401-22 kit:

A bit misleading, it's not FUEL and they casually leave out the SCREWdriver part. It's a $99 kit in the US, so from my perspective it's not a great deal. Maybe average. The batteries will work with any other M12 tool, 1/4 ratchet included.

Personally, I would buy the 2402-22 FUEL kit if I were interested in a hex screwdriver. However, if you don't have a drill or impact driver, I would recommend those over the screwdriver to start with as they have a lot more versatility and power.

Is there any law prohibiting a person in the US from sending a tool gift to someone in the UK? Taxes?Postage? It seems like that kit is awfully expensive. What about the charger, would it have to be different for Euro standards? And yet the M12 batteries would work in the M12 ratchet.

Depending on your needs/usage as Komet stated you may want a drill/driver/impact driver type set.
This(or very simialr) often goes on sale for around $199 US dollars: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...-M12-3-8-in-Ratchet-2598-22-2457-20/305883849

Thanks guys, it is a regular cordless screwdriver I'm after (I have an impact driver and a couple of drills).

It's hard to gauge Milwaukee prices as they are expensive in the UK!!!

I have family in the USA so it's definately an option to get one shipped as a gift.

We use 240vAC with a 3 pin plug in the UK

The price they're claiming it should be (£233 - $294.00) is delusional fuckwittery. It's still way over priced even with their alleged discount ($172)... it's about £78.50 in the US
Bottom line is that it's about 60 quid more in the UK

Yep, It's weird because I do buy a bit of Ko-ken stuff from them from time to time on discount and they are normally pretty reasonable.

I looked at some of the other power tool pricing and noticed how expensive some of it was (although Bosch Professional seems like regular RRP)

I think I might go Makita brushless anyway as they seem to make the most compact version I can find, my old cordless driver is about done unfortunately so I was just browsing and thought it looked like a good discount and thought I should check, another good reason for GJ I suppose 😉

I used to have one, but it was in one of the boxes that was stolen off of my service truck. I used it, but not enough to worry about replacing it. I don't miss it. It's really nothing more than a drill with a 1/4" hex instead of the traditional chuck.

Europe and the UK are Makita's biggest markets. The XDT16 is one of their higher-end impact drivers and would be a solid buy. Not inexpensive, but you are buying a tool and battery that will last.

Handy for taking off vehicle door cards and interior trim where they insist on using three different sized fasteners and you need fast bit changes

It's pretty easy to crack or strip plastic threads with an impact driver

The compact size not having a conventional chuck and super short hex drill bits is very useful for me too

European cars are a pain in the **** to be honest 🤣

Already got a 1/4 hex impact driver, too harsh for what I need
What model is that? The multi-speed Makitas are very gentle at low speed. I use mine quite a bit for electronics repair. Of course if you need a compact size and low power, then other makes may be more suitable.
In production we use a lot of Hitachi/Metabo HPT cordless screwdrivers that work well for small parts assembly because they are compact and easy to handle.
