I would get a cordless such as made by any of the big power tool companies or truck brands. I don't see much point in a 1/4" air impact gun.

I agree.

Snap-On makes a fantastic little cordless 7.2V hex chuck impact with a 1/4" adapter. I love the damn thing, it zips off bolts that I have thought would be on too tight. I used it to bang out a valvecover gasket on a DOHC Mazda in less than 30 minutes. Zips bolts off, zips them back on. Has enough balls to remove stuff, and is weak enough to not overtighten anything much at all.

I'd seriously consider going cordless over air for a 1/4" gun. Chances are you will be confined on space if you're pulling out the 1/4", and the last thing you want to do is drag an air hose around in tight quarters.

The thing that kills me with that one is I dont like the trigger setup. One part of the trigger is forward the other part of the trigger is for reverse. I opted for a Bosch similar to this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bosch-PS40-...240?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1a9e8e98

I got it cheap. $60 Refubished.. came with a case 2 batteries and a charger. As far as torque is decent... could be better but for $60 I cant complain. Maybe one day I'll opt for something stronger....

I have a nice little 19.2v cordless impact driver that I can use for that kind of stuff. For me personally I would like a little air impact for small engine bench work and other small size projects.

Yeah, I didn't think I'd like the rocker style switch, but after using it, it has grown on me. No wasting time switching from forward to reverse, just toggle the switch. I learned quick enough which was forward and which was reverse, index finger for one, middle finger for the other. Definitely took some getting used to.

For smaller work, better tool IMHO is the HF 3/8 impacting ratchet, half the price, smaller, very handy air tool. I find a ratchet easier for closer work than a gun.

7.2 snap on with the rocker trigger is amazing. alot of people who dont know how to use it hate it. i do dashes, splash pans, valve covers, all sorts of stuff with it. saves me several hours each week

I used to have an IR 1/4 used it to death, I bought a Bosch battery job that I don't know how I got along without it as I use it for taking trim and interior parts off. It is smaller and no hose to deal with and no difference in the power department.

I'm also interested in the IR 2101 air impact. If anyone owns it please let me know what you think. Thanks.

This Is what I have at work, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003LST02W/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Good if you dont need a ton of power and dont expect all day performance out of it. But if you want a light portable easy to use electric impact this thing is awesome.

This is what I really want right now tho http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NDB9AK/?tag=atomicindus08-20
First saw something similar to this on the snap-on truck, Made by bluepoint looks almost the same. Definitely looks cool for light work.

Good Luck

^ they see you trollin, they hatin..

You maybe, not me.

I'm saying who in their right mind would take a cordless impact over an air impact Ina professional automotive repair setting? Do you think the fluids, solvents, oils of vehicles will be good on a cordless impact?

Interior/dash work comes to mind, usually there's no oil in there.

Lots of people, I'm one of them. No hose to fight, fits in smaller places, fast, powerful.

All the guys in the shop I'm at use cordless more then air. Reaching for the air tools when more power is needed.

Can't say I've ever seen a tool failure due to contamination. Then again, we try to keep some level of cleanliness, and take care of the tools that make us money...

Unless your tool is being submerged in oil, then cordless should have no problems in a shop environment. As cordless tools are becoming more powerful and compact than their predecessor, I'm slowly getting rid of my air gun. I'll still keep a few air guns around, but I sure won't be using them as often!

As far as 1/4" impact goes, I personally don't a need for one myself. My 3/8" Dewalt Impact (12v MAX) is so damn small and powerful that a 1/4" air impact serves no purpose.

I respect your opinion but i can work all day on a single battery and have the same amount of torque as a 1/4" air gun and fit in the same places without the chore of dragging or being tethered to a hose all day. Been doing it daily for 2 years now with zero troubles from my little bosch but i also take special care not to submerse it any liquid and watch where i set it down to prevent damage. Between its portability, performance, and versatility its easily become one of the tools i cant live without along my DMM and backprobes. Battery tools are no stranger to a professional automotive or industrial environment so i dont honestly see any real problems with careful use and common sense.

Matco cordless 10.8 V or the new 12V Infinium impact. Best on the market hands down. No adapters needed. It's 1/4" square drive and its bad to the bone. I had one for 3 years now.
