1/4 OSB for ceiling??

I've got 24 OC trusses. For the ceiling I was thinking about going with 1/4 OSB but I'm worried about sagging over time, especially if I paint it. Anyone have experience with 1/4 inch on the ceiling?

It will definitely sag.

Way too thin. I would not even use it on my walls.

No question about it 1/4" will sag on 24" centers.

OSB or drywall will sag over 24 inches.
Surprisingly, what doesn’t is the 2x4 foot panels the use for dropped ceilings.
You may want to check the out.
They are designed for that span.

Thanks guys for the replies. I'm trying to keep cost down so a drop ceiling is out of the question although a good thought. Looks like I'll just have to go with a thicker OSB.

7/16" OSB is only marginally more expensive than 1/4". Since it is so much more commonly used, it may even be found a bit cheaper. Also, have you considered metal? It won't sag on 48" centers, let alone 24", and it will have a finish that looks great and will never need anything done to it except for cleaning in your lifetime, most likely.

X2, yes metal is the way to go IMO.

Like the others have said, it will sag. I used 7/16" on my ceiling.

I used 7/16 OSB on mine. Very pleased with it!
