1/4" per foot drop around a corner?

I know it's kinda a dumb question, but I need to trench for a 30' sewer line and it goes around a blind corner.

I lent my transit out a couple of weeks ago, and they are 100+ miles away.

A string line would work, but the corner shrows a gotcha into the system. I know I need a 7.5" drop, but I'd rather not put in the pipe then make the trench fit.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

what you could do is run 2 pices of string and have them cross at the corner that should tell you what you need to know if not i've run out of ideas lol

String lines should work or even a level off of a common reference point (foundation or course of block or brick)

Or even a 4 foot level with a 1" block under one end. Or an 8 foot level with a 2" block under an end.

If the corner is 10 feet from the start it'll be 2.5" lower than the starting point. The remaining 20 feet will drop another 5" for a total of 7.5 inches of drop.

No real need for a transit just for 30 feet of slope. But, that's just me.

You can do it with nothing more than a garden hose, but 50 foot of 1/4" clear tygon tubing or similar will work equally well, with a couple of wood stakes to tape the tubing to, and a funnel.
