1/4 ratchet

Just got a Craftsman 1/4 drive professional grade ratchet. That is a nice, feel good in your hand ratchet. If I counted clicks right it has a 50 tooth gear. Anybody used one enough to have a performance opinion? I have some old and late model Craftsman, a couple of Cornwells, and recently obtained a Snap on and a Mac. The new Craftsman feels as nice as the others, much better than the older style Craftsman.

Craftsman and NAPA are both made by Danher. Compared the new Cman with the NAPA to see if the internals were the same, it's possible the big gear is the same but the bottom plate and selector are different. Don't know about MATCO.

Is that the thin profile craftsman #44994 ?, its a 60th tooth....

It the same as the Gearwrench, Armstrong, and
Matco 60(now its a 88 gear). The Craftsman version has quick release., while the Armstrong and Gearwench don't have the quick release...
I like them with out the quick release.....

Yes, it's the 44994. I could have easily miscounted the clicks, didn't take ratchet apart to count teeth. I've liked the pushbutton release ever since they came out.

I have a set of those Craftsman ratchets and they have all held up fine except for the 1/4" drive. Sometimes it will switch direction without me touching the lever in any way. I have no idea how it happens but does about 2-3 times a day if I am using it a lot.

Those ratchets are really pretty nice, and that's coming from an anti-Craftsman guy. A guy I work with has one and after checking it out, I may go pick up a set.

Too bad they don't have a flexhead available yet.

i dont like craftsman, but i do happen to have that ratchet, and its nice, way nicer than the junk 1/4 crapsman teardrops

i dont think its as nice as my snap on, but still good enough that i actually use it

I have that set and agree the C-Man pro ratchets are great. My second choice to my GearWrench ratchets...

not a big fan of them they are a little too bulky for my liking but other than that they are a great ratchet

I actually like it better than my Snap-On 1/4" drive. So A- in my book. For $10 swap meet price they are really tough to beat.

i did a run on the bank. OH I MEAN SEARS

anyways, i brought in 5 normal 3/8" ratchets and 3 1/4" craftsman ratchets. they had none stocked on the shelf but they have all 5 of the 3/8" refurb ratchets but only 2 of the 1/4". they upgraded me to a 1/4" professional one for free. i was happy

next time i go i am gonna hide all the ratchets on the shelves so they have to give me the better professional series ones

I only have the 3/8" version but they are very nice ratchets, I kind of use it as a second string to my Matco's.

Unlike others I like the heft those ratchets have, they feel substantial.

Funny that you should mention that 1/4 inch ratchet, just today I picked one up for $5.00 dollars. Darn it I took it home and opened it up for a cleaning, the spring came out and it took me an hour to find it. It took me another 20 min. to get the whole thing back together! I think it will be a nice little ratchet, once I find what I did with my reading glasses...

yes the 1/4 is nice. its small and it fits in your hand nicely. its not overyly hefty (compaired to other companies) but its larger brother 3/8 is way to heavy for its own good. my long handle flex ratchets weigh less than it does. but yes they are verry nice ratchets except the weight. front and back of the ratchet gear are o ring sealed. the METAL selecter leaver is a darker anodized (hardcoat?) than the rest of the ratchet and stands out nicely and sits flat against the surface of the ratchet. It is semi flush mounted. (not to the same degree as matco or gearwrench) but still verry low proflile these ratchets are only slightly thicker than my gearwrench units and the only part that is thicker is the selecter leaver and the qr button. But both these feartures I like verry much so its not really that big a deal and the thickness added is maybe 1mm so it doesent make a difference. my only gripe is that craftsman does not offer a flex head ratchet that is of this design by dahner. but yes these are nice ratchets if you dont mind the weight. personaly I live my 1/4 hate my 3/8 (unless the bolt is tight all the way out then it fits my hand verry nicely) and my half is nice alto a bit short to do any real good
