There's that word "consumables" again. When you start paying $7 a piece for them, they stop being consumables because you start taking care of them and not abuse them.

The reason why I pay more is because I can't tolerate bits that don't fit correctly, or bits that wear out after one or two uses. The reason why cheap tools are available is because cheap people keep buying them.

Every time I think you can't make it clearer you've never worked in the trades, you post gems like this. Bravo.

You don't believe me? I'll post a link. I bought an Apex 440-TX-20-H tamper proof T-20 to remove the MAF sensor on my car. By time you pay tax, it's well over $7.00. I keep all my bits in a Mechanics Time Savers magnetic bit holder and I only use the bits by hand with a hand driver. They last practically forever that way.

Rather than HF, if I was looking for 'cheap' 6" insert bits I would go to Quickscrews
https://quickscrews.com/catalog/drive-bits?TID=498&length[]=s-6.000

However a few years ago Klein made a screwdriver handle with 6" black coated insert bits. They have since discontinued the handle and kit but you can still find a few of the bits available. For the several 6" (a size I use commonly at one job) I have tried, these are the best. And when I say best, there may be better insert bits but not a lot of brands make 6" ones, and typically the ones you find are the more box store quality than fine top tier tools.

their current set is 3-1/2" and it's not the same, but are also nice

and if you happen to need a 12" as I also sometimes do,

I don't use these daily but typically I do weekly. Most often with an M12 drill until I got my new surge drive which is the greatest. Sometimes with a T handle. I've owned most of them for 3+ years and they pretty much all look and work just like new. If I did service calls most or all the time I would surely have some cheapos for some jobs, but if you keep up with your stuff it's relatively easy to either not lose stuff or manage things if something breaks or is unrecoverable. Case in point I know the last job I did there's still a glow rod in the drop ceiling. It's threads are basically stripped and it wasn't worth the effort to go back up and find which spot it fell out of the other one. Hopefully I lose the other two of that **** southwire set and get them to buy a Klein set to replace it.

Oh, I absolutely believe you. Like I said, you've never worked in the trades. Do you honestly think anyone working to pay their bills is going to buy the most expensive bits they can find and then only use them by hand so they last forever? Of course not. They're going to find the most cost effective (not necessarily cheapest) solution that allows them to get the job done fastest.

Your posts are detrimental to the people that come to this forum seeking guidance. So for the good of the people asking questions and the rest of us who have to come in and clean up the mess after you give another piece of terrible advice: Be quiet.
