1/4 sockets

I have a full set of Craftsman 1/4 Drive sockets. The deep mm are getting worn and I would like to return them for a new set. Ive been told that Craftsman Sockets are **** now. Should i keep them trade them in for new craftsman or trade them to Snap on

Trade them in. Before you do, make sure to find a set of the U.S.A. made ones on the rack as a trade in.

The new craftsmans are fine and not junk and made in the USA. Or you can just go spend at least 3X the money to get snap on. 1/4 sockets dont usually break often. How much force is really put into a small socket anyway.

its all about the fit on the fastner though....ever rounded off a little fastner? most of the time to un-frack a little one is harder than a big one....

The new craftsman 1/4 sockets get me heated. the double detent is gobbage. When I try to stick one on a square the corners get stuck in the detents.
I'd go for anything but craftsman just for that reason.
3/8 and 1/2 dont have this major design flaw.

I'd trade them in for new Cman sockets.
Then if you don't like them.....upgrade.

go exchange your old ones for some new Cman's. no they are SO quality but they aren't terrible.

I think that will be their call to swap out the whole set. From a warranty standpoint, they are probably only required to swap out what is worn.

Only exception I have seen is if one item can only be had from a set and not sold individually. Then they will swap out out as one whole set.

Depends who is working the register at Sears when you get there. They aren't warrented for wear. Hit them with a hammer and brake em, them they are warrented.

Depends who is working the register at Sears when you get there. They aren't warrented for wear. Hit them with a hammer and brake em, them they are warrented.

They are warranted for wear. The only Craftsman hand tools that are not warranted for wear are ones with replaceable blade or cutting instruments that are expected to get dull.

Unless you are afraid on confrontation, just take them to Sears and see what they say. I would bet a cold beer that at least you get the true broken and worn ones warrantied and a fair chance the whole set replaced.

Those Sears monkeys working there do not give a **** or blink twice most times over warranty requests so long as they have something to throw in the scrap bucket to show for what they gave you.

I've got plenty of craftsman, are they as nice as the SK? No. Do they work? Yes.

I am quite the SO fan, and as such all my 3/8 stuff is SO, however all my 1/4 sockets are craftsman and more recently some kobalt, both have held up well, in 12 years of daily shop use I've only broken 1 socket and it was a 12 or 13mm (years ago and I can't remember which it was.). I just never could justify the cost of upgrading when what I have works so well. Yeah the chrome is terrible compared to snap on, but I USE my tools instead of polishing them so it doesn't bother me. The kobalt 1/4 stuff is pretty good too, extensions are knurled, but the ratchets **** with the backwards reversing lever. I bought 2 of the shallow 20 or 21 price sets before Christmas for $10 each and would gladly do it again. The only thing is kobalt doesn't appear to make a 5.5 and I use that socket often so there is a craftsman rattling around in the case. I say go get those warrantied and see how you like them.

Emphasis on the words HAND TOOL. I can't count the number of times I had to deal with people who insisted their Craftsman electric drill/sander/etc. had a lifetime warranty. Then, of course, when I disabused them of that notion , they would get all pissed off and take it out on the idiot at the counter - me.

This is what I say to any person at SEARS who refuses to warranty any Craftsman tool I bring to SEARS. I also have a copy of the warranty in my wallet. I've never had to show the warranrty card to anyone, it never gets that far.

I bought the $55 18 pc wrench module set recently and swapped out maybe 14 of them. No questions asked. I said these wrenches are brand new but made with the open end way too wide, I had my calipers. Got the new ones off the shelf which were good and swapped 'em out.

Personally I have never once been questioned on returns.

and sometimes they will give you your $$$$ back, i bought a radiator pressure tester and used it, got to lookin at it and thought that the rubber ballon thingy that seals it looked like it was a POS, took it back and told em that it was a POS and they gave me my money back, so it dont got to be broke

Not true. At least, not with their current lineup.
