Anyone have one of the stubby quarter inch or even three eights inch air ratchets. They seem very handy for a small shop and would get me out of the trouble that my cordless impact driver gets me into on the smaller bolts.

I have a larger/regular size 3/8 ratchet and I find myself never using it. Mainly because it's so big and it's got a long hose attached to it.

They're really useful. I had a little 1/4 Cornwell mini ratchet with a swivel air fitting for years. Definitely got into some small spots the 3/8 air, and later Milwaukee M12, couldn't get too. I finally sold it since I moved to being in a service truck (with no compressor), and it still took 3 years after that for me to finally let it go.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the same thing. I also have the Milwaukee M12, great tool but no breakaway torque.

I have stubby 3/8 and it in use daily and major time saver.
Mix it with quality airline and swivel fitting and you'll love using it .

I have one and there great but its a few years old and the new ones out now look pretty awesome. Tiny in size with impact feature. Much smaller than cordless.

As i'm working in workshop all I use is nano impact and stubby 3/8 wrench for 95% of jobs.
If you buy decent spec ones you be more than happy with power such a small package can achieve and how usable it is in any scenario .
My facom ns.1600f pulls and fits a wheel bearing if needed .
Other bonus is low user fatigue as they so light and well balanced in the hand .

Who makes the smallest one out there right now? I mostly use these for chasing the bolts into a deep thread, where a ratchet won't engage or I have limited rotation.

I saw one in HF which sparked my vision. I refuse to buy their junk when it comes to moving parts.

I also spotted the HF version the other day. I have a hard time buying HF air tools as I seem to have bad luck with them. Looked like it would fit into a few tight areas tho.

Wore the IR out. Lost the Matco and bought new Blue point to replace it. Of course then I found the Matco. Love that little one, have used it many years. The new Blue Point came with the whip hose which while convenient it is a pain in the *** getting it in and out of the tool cart. Always tangled up on something...

Have had the Blue Point 1/4 impact for about ten years. Working on body related stuff the little air tools are amazingly handy.

Astro 1119 is very small, maybe a little weak in torque though .
Neiko 30119B not bad tool .

I have 3 air tools from HF and am very impressed with their quality for the price. The right angle drill, and the super tiny 1/4 ratchet are my two favorites. The ratchet isn’t a powerhouse, but it spins quickly and is great for things like oil pans or other small fasteners in hard to reach areas. My only complaint is that the detent ball isn’t super strong, but I haven’t lost a socket yet. For under $30, I think you should give it a whirl.

ETA, I use it at work to work on vehicles.

And, a very seasoned mechanic friend of mine turned me on to HF air tools. He has a 90* die grinder that’s going on 15 years. He said he bought it when HF was a mail order only company.

I've got a mac stubby that I use almost exclusively. I had considered an Astro and I wouldn't hesitate to try it either

I have a similar spec Kincrome 1/2" compact air impact. Its same weight of 1.3kg similar power specs but its 16cm in length, the facom looks a little smaller. But with a max of 970nm in reverse and a solid 500ftlbs give or take in forward its very rare I need to break out my bigger gun. I love compacts and wish I had that little Facom. For $230 au dollars its great value compared to what cordless impacts and batteries cost.

Ive had the 1/4 and 3/8 IR max mini ratchets for 3 or 4 years with no complaints plenty of torque @ 30ft/lb and the small size makes them very versatile. I use the 1/4” so much when I found a deal on CL for the 3/8 I didn't flinch...

https://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-1105MAX-D2-4-Inch-Composite-Ratchet/dp/B002Z34TOS
IR not bad but not smallest, do want 25 to 35ft/lb though as ones below 20ft/lb bit useless in some scenarios.
Plenty good ones out there, most are taiwan made and rebranded so don't be afraid try something taiwan oem.
If noise a concern be more fussy on what buy and be prepaired spend more.
anything somewhere around 6" length, 2" diameter with around 25 to 35ft/lb and uses under 4cfm air is going be good, composite nice feature too as better grip in hand and not ice cold like alloy.
Wobble anvil useful too on these, I only use 3/8 as find 1/4 not much benefit and if get ultra small 5" long 1/4 air ratchet torque so low they struggle running bolts/nuts with thread lock or rust ...
Once you got one you wonder how managed without .
My employee has a taiwan unbranded with orange composite body, under 7" long, progressive throttle and manages about 26ft/lb, only cost 28bucks .
40 to 140 bucks seems be price range for the nicer tools though .

If you want very small and only 1/4", consider the Astro 1111A. Slightly larger and more torque is the Astro 1114A.

Pulled the trigger on the central pneumatic stubby 3/8. It's the same size as the 1/4 and I already have the 3/8 impact sockets. Came to $20 when it was all said and done
