Does anyone make an adapter that will alow you to use a 1/4" inpact driver with 3/8" hex drive tools? The reason I ask is because I have a number of hole saw with integral 3/8" hex drive shanks. They work fine in my drill. Recently I had a job where the hole saw had to be driven with an extension and nothing I had would work. I final used a 3/8 hex to 3/8 square adapter at the drill end, a 3/8 square extension , and a 3/8 deep well socket intowhich I set the hex drive hole saw. The only reason it worked was because I predrilled the pilot hole.

Several places. The best and the shortest are either the milwalkee, which is impact rated or the makita wobble which is also impact rated even though its chromed. Both at home depot. My phone *****. Ill get you a link when I get home

I think he is looking for the 3/8" end to be hex as well (both 1/4" and 3/8" hex). I have not seen this myself. I guess a socket would be the best I could come up with.

Not sure about the adapter but I keep a 1/4" hex drive chuck around for cobbling together contraptions like the one you described. In fact I bought it when I had to use a hole saw on a long extension to get some conduit through a soffit.

I bought the Dewalt simply because it was the smallest diameter one I could find and because it was smaller than the hole I was cutting.

I'm tired after a weekend of camping so I hope I'm understand your question. I think the other suggestions are for hex to square drive.

I think a 1/4dr 3/8" deep socket would have been my 'right now' solution. I'm sure the thing you are looking for exists, but i don't think i've ever seen one in person.

Okay. Think I got it this time.

This is what I did to drill a hole in the back of our soffit. In my case the hole I was working through was also drilled by the same hole saw so I needed the chuck to be the same diameter or smaller than the hole saw, which it was. Diameter of chuck at widest point is about 1.5".

I tried a socket on a hex to square adapter on the same extension and didn't like it was much. In fact I think I have a socket and/or hole saw stuck in the soffit somewhere because it fell off.

Chuck has proven to be a useful tool to have around.

Get a 1/4" hex drill chuck. It will hold your hole saws and anything else you want to put in you 1/4 impact gun.
