1/4inch ratchets...

im in the market for a new 1/4inch ratchet. looking for something thats 10-12inchs long total (give or take). non-flex head.

Their flex models with the comfort grip are about 8 inches which is plenty in my opinion. I have their TLL72 and I hardly use the thing because its so long. Definitely a specialty ratchet for me. By comparison I use my comfort grip flex daily.

I have the TL830 and the handle has always been too skinny for me. I don't use it much.

In all honesty,one of the best 1/4" ratchets I've used is a little Kobalt unit. It's not the length you want,but it has been faultless for me and I've used about every brand available. Just my opinion.

I have the long reach 1/4 inch drive ratchets from titan tools. flex head and non flex, right at 12 inches long. the heads are really small . very happy with them.

i would love to try out the GearWrench but i cant walk into any store they are sold and have it replaced. i think some people have had the same problem. same goes for stanley tools that i have bought.

You're wrong about the Gearwrench warranty. As long as its stocked the store can swap it for you. Not saying some stubborn clueless employee cant stand in your way but something like a sears or advance can absolutely warranty GW for walk in customers.

That said im not sure any stores are stocking the new long GW ratchets. Napa Carlyle is the only B&M brand that comes to mind with anything remotely close to what you're asking about. R14L90 is a 90 tooth 7" long comfort grip ratchet and R14F90 is a flex version that runs 8" long. Husky, Kobalt, Craftsman, HF, etc...none of them have what i'd call "long" 1/4" drive ratchets. If you want off the street service for that particular item Carlyle is probably your best bet.

For what its worth you wont find a 1/4" drive ratchet a foot long from any manufacturer I can think of and that's most certainly not for tight quarters. The longer the handle the more space it takes to swing it.

Thats why I said "I" cant. Iv tried. They always tell me to call the company to have it replaced. I was told this 2 or 3 times and I gave up. yet if I bring a cman wrench broken in 2 back to sears they will give me a new one without saying anything. Even sometimes they let me take a new ratchet off the shelf rather then getting a rebuilt unit.

And it doesnt have to be a foot long. 8-9inches total is fine.

Is 8 1/4'' long enough? In order to get that length, a locking flex-head might be the way to go. Snap-on THLX72.

The TLL72 is about the longest your going to find. A ft long 1/4 ratchet is crazy long. That kind of leverage is just going to break the ratchet.

I recently acquired a tl72 comfort grip. I think it's something you could be happy with. It's a very well proportioned ratchet with the comfort grip in it. I have the regular t72 hard handle as well and I don't use it because the hard handle is too skinny for my bug hands. Just doesn't feel right whereas this new one has a very nice feel.

I'm not sure if the measurement includes the head or not. I'm at work so I can't measure it till later this evening. Its a long SOB though.

There are a lot of websites listing the Gearwrench XL 84 tooth ratchets with the wrong length. The all steel 1/4 drive version is actully 6 15/16 in length, while the comfort grip version comes in at 8 3/16 inches long overall.
We have the 9 inch long snap on at work. It's great for access but, often too long for normal 1/4 drive use.
The Carlyle 90 tooth ratchets someone mentioned are great ratchets that won't break the bank especially, if your shop has a napa account.

Yeah, I was impressed. It's also strong, I put a lot of torque on it with zero issues.

I also picked up a standard length Matco 88t the same day.

I have that ratchet and I could probably count the times I've used it on one hand. I have Matco's 6" locking flex that I use primarily and it is my favorite ratchet in the world. For a fixed head I prefer to be able to hold a 1/4" ratchet and put my thumb over the end of the ratchet directly down the centerline of the socket. If you need a 8" + ratchet I would step up to a 3/8". Just my personal preference.

S-K 40971 is 6.5"... i have their 4.5" 1/4" drive ratchet and really like it. wright 2492 is 5.75". i haven't used any of their ratchets but i've used their breaker bars with similar handle design and it's very comfortable. i guess you gotta get on the truck to find anything longer? but you want to be careful, how much torque you're putting on a 1/4" drive socket, my feeling is they make the ratchets generally a certain length for a reason...

Yes sir, I was going to buy the regular THL72 but I really didn't like how the handle tapers down the handle.

The soft grip handle adds a couple more inches. It's almost as long as the FHL80.
