I would like to purchase a 1" belt sander. I have my eye on these three. Would be for general shop use, both wood and metal, maybe even some tool restoration and sharpening. The 1/3 HP seems kinda wimpy, but that seems to be standard for this size machine. Any particular recommendations? Other models I should be considering?

On all of these, the disc looks difficult to change. I assume it's a PSA affair.

I have the delta in your second link above (bought it for $10 used). It works well for what it is, but not surpisingly you can stall it if you push the work into it hard enough--and hard enough in this case is not that hard. Still, with a 36 grit belt on it it does pretty well for material removal.

The 5" disc is not difficult to remove. just unscrew the dust shield and tilt the table back.

All in all, a useful tool, but I would have a hard time spending $150 on one. Maybe if it had a 1hp motor :D

Bolster,

Keep your eyes peeled for a used Burr King or Hammond belt grinder.
