Hello everyone !
This is my first post/topic here. I'm an IT guy from Transylvania and I love working on my cars. But due to space I have three 1 car garages, one of which is converted to a shop.

I'm looking for some lighting ideas for one of the garages. It's a narrow garage with windows above the door and it's always very dark in there. Here are 2 pictures:

I thought about putting some white panels on the ceiling and using fluorescent tubes for lighting. How do LED tubes stack up against old-fashioned fluorescent tubes?

Thanks in advance

Welcome. There's been a lot of discussion on the forum lately regarding LEDs and fluorescent lights. Look through the threads on this Lighting & Electrical subforum. Most are fairly recent.

Although some may disagree, I think the consensus is that T8 fluorescent fixtures with good bulbs and ballasts are the best bang for the buck currently and that's what I intend to go with in my shop. T8 fixtures should lend themselves well for upgrading to LED tubes as those products become more viable.

You should at least paint your ceiling white as it will help brighten things up regardless of which lights you end up choosing.
