I acquired this 64-505 torque wrench at auction a few years ago and now I need to use it at max rating. It makes cryptic reference to causing damage to itself by improper use. I see from online listings that it is supposed to come with 4 bars, but I did not get any with it. 1706027808162.png

The bars are reaction bars to keep it from turning. It’s basically a torque reader.

Thanks, but I do not see a place to put the bars? The drive side is cross drilled for them. The Caution sticker on the unit says;

'' this tool must be used (as) a T-handle or with a torque multiplier. Use center bar and 2 handles for low torque and with 4 handles for high torques over 1000 ft lbs. If not used as a T-handle the wrench will be damaged."

I am going to lend it to a friend and I do not want it ruined.

With out the bars you can’t use it. If you don’t know how to use a torque multiplier do not use this. It’s just another step in the process of using a multiplier. Not trying to be rude but there is a lot of forces at play in using a torque multiplier that can go very wrong if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing.

Also un asked for advice: if you’re worried about breaking it, don’t loan it out. If you don’t know how to use I’d bet they don’t either and it if it breaks what is your friendship worth?

That is precisely why I am humbling myself here and asking for the instructions. This is why such forums exist in my opinion. If you have any ideas as to where I can better ask for help please be forthcoming. A youtube would be great too!

That’s the thing I’ve got no problem with a guy asking but there are no good instructions for torque multipliers. You have to brace it against something stronger than the highest torque you’re going for without it slipping off and going horribly wrong.

This particular torque measuring device requires 3 people, two to hold the measuring device like a T bar, and a guy to apply the torque. I saw a posting on eBay for this same style from a Boeing auction and there was one tiny picture of how to set it up on the box lid, showing what I described above.

You need the bars before you can do anything though. You can reach out to precision instruments, probably the OEM of the device. They might have a way to buy just the bars.

Personally I would find a way to rent a rad gun. How high do you need to go?

It actually says it can be used with T-handle OR torque multiplier. I have a Gray TM 2000 multiplier to use with it. I want to know about the light that I believe comes on at the desired setting. The dial turns freely, I want to know how to read it.
