I recently ordered a Big Maxx 45k btu heater. When I clicked the final button on the order form, I got an error message. I re-ordered and everything went through. Well, I got my order today and they shipped two of them!! I immediately called and after about 2 mins on hold, I was able to speak to a customer rep. He was super helpful and said that he would send a pre-paid return UPS form and all I had to do was to tape the label to the box and write the return number somewhere on the box. Once they receive it back, they will refund my credit card. Took me about 5 mins total to arrange the return.

We'll see if my money is refunded quickly but so far, I'm very happy with Northern's service.

I've ordered from them before and never had a problem till now. But, they are making it right so that's all that matters.

If they are on the ball this early about the problem, I doubt there will be much of a delay with the crediting your money back.

Glad to hear there's some companies out there that still understand the customer service side of things!

I had zero trouble with the return. They emailed me a pre-paid return shipping label. I taped it to the box, wrote the return authorization number on the box, and dropped it off at a UPS place. Few days later I got a notice that they had received it. A couple days later, my CC had been refunded. And, Christmas was in there as well so it probably would have been a day or two sooner.

I'm impressed with Northern Tool and highly recommend their service. First problem I've ever had with them and they were super to deal with.

I bought a Big Maxx 75k heater a couple years ago while it was on sale w/free shipping. It was the cheapest price around before the free shipping.

I ordered something on sale that turned out to be unavailable. I called to check staus and they broke the news and then offered a $20 gift card. They didn't have to do that. I am pleased.

Except their high prices.

I'm not a NT fan boy but the few times I've shopped there, I've found their prices to be competitive. Sure, you can usually find things for a 1-2% cheaper elsewhere but typically at an unknown company, ebay, or specialty online store.

Considering the positive customer service comments that most have for them, I'd venture most would have no problem paying a few extra bucks in return for good post sale support!

I just bought an engine cradle there. It was on sale for 29.99 regular price 49.99. When I was checking out I it rang up at regular price. I told the lady there was a little yellow sticker saying 29.99. She sent someone to look and it turns out the sale had expired but since the sticker was up she gave it to me for the sale price.

Good customer service.

My parents bought me a Plyworks pliers rack(which I love), the only weird thing is they sent a bunch of brakestrip brake fluid testing strips. This happen to any one else. There are 50 of these packets in the box.

Except their high prices.

I waited for black Friday to get a floor jack (Arcan 3.5T, low profile, high lift...China made yes, but very heavy all steel construction) and it was marked down online from $159 to $149 or something close...printed the ad and went in to get one...it was $99 in the store. I was happy...

Other than that holiday deal, they do appear much if any cheaper than other stores.

I bought an item from NT and in addition to the item they sent me two V neck T shirts. They weren't the best quality but good enough to work in.

Remindes me they recently open a store here in austin. Need to stop in there. I really enjoy their catalog. They have just about every thing you need for shop and home. And agree prices are good.

In some cases NT carries slightly higher quality offerings than HF. In other cases NT carries items in their store not available in the HF store. I use both and I've been happy with both. I find employees in both stores far more courteous, helpful and in general Customer Oriented, than almost any other retail store I've been in lately.

I like going to stores where the employees seem to be actually happy to see me.

FWIW,
Carl B.
