1 HP Bridgeport Mill Vis 2 HP ACRA Mill

I am not a real machinist but I play one for laughs in my shop.

My current mill is an ACRA 2 HP Bridgeport clone. I did not pay much for it but it is not in the best cosmetic shape and the table is peppered with the evidence of a hard life. Even so, it has given me good service.

I have an opportunity to purchase a Series 1 Bridgeport rated at 1 HP. This is a much nicer machine in all respects and the price is supper low. It needs some parts but even so, it is a fantastic deal.

My question is simple, will I be disappointed with the performance of the 1 HP Bridgeport after using the 2 HP ACRA?

I have always wanted a Bridgeport and this is an exceptional opportunity for me. I want it to be a positive experience and not a disappointment.

Unless you like to run large face mills, which a BP really isn't designed to do. I don't think you will notice a bit of difference.

One thing, don't get the idea that a true bridgport is the best mill out there. They are a very versatile machine, hence they are very popular and you see quite a few of them. But "the best mill" they are not.

I am not familiar with acra machines but if it's a BP clone, I don't really understand why you need to have a BP other than the fact it says BP on it?

If I was going to upgrade mills, I would go for one that was bigger/better optioned or more well tooled. Or something along those lines.

What is the biggest cut you've taken with your Acra?

Tool diameter?
Depth of cut?
Step over?
Feed per tooth?

How old is the Bport? Newer or older?
The newer ones had Crome ways which were nice. The acra could have Crome ways but not sure
