Anyone use the random 1" color chips on their floor? Picture of it? What is the best looking and most popular size of chips?

My company uses 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" chips. The 1/2" chips tend to fold instead of snap off when its a bit humid. When scraping, you'll get pieces that stick straight up. You'll end up having to make another trip just to chop off every standing chip and do light touch ups. You'd waste time and money. As for 1", I can imagine they would be much, much more difficult.

I agree with the 1/4" or 1/8" chips. I only use the 1/4 as that is the look that I like. It is really a personal choice. I also like the full broadcast and don't really care too much for the random flake floor. Again, personal choice.

Best of Luck

We hardly EVER sell 1" flakes and almost every time someone wishes that they would have done something different.

The most popular grade is 1/4". It is the easiest to spread evenly. Our second most popular is the 1/16" which we would/will only sell to trained applicators for big jobs.

I would think that 1" chips wouldn't look the best in most applications. An uneven spread would be very obvious. With the smaller flakes one has a lot more fudge factor available to make small errors in broadcast.

However with proper planning large flakes can look very attractive. Here's one great looking job where the owner put down a 3 very large orange chips on a blue base coat:)

first time poster here, and I'm raising an ancient post from the dead!

Question: The company I contacted to do my garage claimed to have 1/4", 1/2" and 1" flakes. Is there a reason I wouldn't go with 1" flakes if a professional is doing it, including a topcoat?

For a DIY project I'd say stick to the 1/4" flakes. But if you have a pro doing the install then the main consideration is aesthetics; do you like the look of the larger flakes? If so, that's the way to go.

Personally I'd only go with larger flakes only if is was a good size space, 1,000 ft2 or more. But again, that's just personal taste.

Happened to be in a new restaurant last night & saw 1" chips. Uh. No. Very, very uneven appearance - even with tables & chairs sitting everywehre. I mean like you might have a 1' square area that had zero chips and then the next 1' square area has 10 chips - all stacked on top of each other.

Lol, I haven't seen enough installation of 1" flakes to know if I like it or not. And I'm only doing a 2 car garage, not that big.

I can work a floor with 1" chips no problem. No matter the square footage.
