For 1 inch drive you wont be using them too much, Grey pneumatic are great, but id go with harbor freight on that one.

I have 1" drive sockets from harbor freight and they are only a problem if the bolt is to close to something. They compensate for strength by making the sockets thicker. I have only had one or two times where this was an issue.

In my opinion... 1inch drive stuff is almost worthless unless you do very heavy truck/construction eq work. I have some 1" stuff and wish I could trade it all for 3/4. Go with 3/4 and go with one of the companies listed by the other members. Harbor Freight has a good 3/4 impact for about $100. Be sure to use a 1/2 air hose and big fittings, if you can, to get good flow. I have some Mac 3/4 stuff that was pricey but got a good deal. It's not worth spending tool truck prices unless you use it often.

"My current set is HF and they do ok but I will be upgrading to Proto. We had a Proto set at my last job it was really nice but also about 3k in price. I use my 1" all the time and do need a much better set.

My experience is you don't need to spend a whole lot of money. I used the high dollar sockets and I've used the cheaper ones. Doesn't seem to be much difference in 3/4 or 1in drive.

I buy everything used. I have picked up full sets of used 3/4" drive sockets for all 4 sons and 3 of the grand sons. The sockets are all different. I have never paid more than $6 for a socket and that inclusdes the 2" socket. I pick up 3/4" ratchets for as little as $15.
I even have gotten Snao-on sockets for as little as a dollar.

I would look on Craigslist and buy a good used sed for under $150 and have a good tool.
You can always get your money back. If you buy the cheaper brands new you will loose money if you every want to sell them. If you are not working on large equipment don't bother with 1 inch drive.

I have huge John Deere Tractors and a combine and I don't use any one inch dirve tools. I have not had to tare them apart and rebuld them but for normal repairs I just don't need anyting that large.

Used singe 1 inch sockets are very rare.

Gray is an Canadian company that has been maiking great tools for years. Their sockets are made in Canidan and Tiawan. They are all good. I think the 1 inch lines is Canadian and they are very expensive. They might have the import and Canadian made.

Proto sets are good and you can find them more than anyother brand at low prices.

I have built a 3/4 drive set of 12 pt non impact sockets from the flea market. I keep these at work. All US made, all name brands, some new, some only slightly used, some rather old but nice. Paid $2 to $4 each for them and have a full set from 7/8 up to 2 inch, mostly in 1/16 increments. I am missing only a couple of very odd sizes.

3/4 ratchets at the flea usually get about $40 or a little less, Breaker bars about $20, and extensions get about a dollar an inch.

I have another set at home of Williams I bought off of Ebay. All nearly new, the guy said he had it for years and never really needed them. Ratchet, breaker bar, T bar, extensions, metal case. I have added to it with more sizes, all Williams Don't have over a $125 in the whole set.
