I just bought a used IR electric impact gun (780 ft lbs of torque) that is 1 inch drive for cheap money.

I'm looking to find a 1 inch reducer so that I can use this with my existing 1/2 drive impact sockets.

Anyone know of such a beast?

Sure, all the major venders sell that adapter, many are not lifetime warranted though. Proto, Snap-On, Mac, and many others sell this, if it is not lifetime backed it usually is stamped on the body of the adapter, at least it is with Proto. In spite of this marking I have gotten them warrantied in the past.

I've searched high and low and cant find a 1 inch femal to 1/2 inch male adapter. (1 inch to 3/4 is pretty common) Looked at snap on, proto, armstrong, craftsman, SK.

Any leads? I'v trying to avoid adapter piled on adapter and might justwind upselling the impact gun in the end.

Damn, I was sure snap on, proto or the like would have sold that adapter, perhaps it is just way too much jump to make in one step, and will not allow for reasonable use of the adapter without breakage! :headscrat

you will have to get 2 adpters 1" to 3/4" and then 3/4" to 1/2" to make that work and I don't know about an electric impact but I would not want to try it with an air impact. that would be like putting a 1/4" adpter on a 1/2" impact.. just too risky for me....

While a 1" impact gun may have it's benefits for some work,it's not the right tool for general automotive work-kind of like using a 12 lb sledge to drive finishing nails. My suggestion is to e-bay it and use the proceeds for something less cumbersome. A good 1/2' electric will be much smaller and weigh half as much.A pneumatic gun will be even easier to work with and may have the same amount of power-if you have a compressor.
I have heard great things about the most recent battery impacts-in particular the Milwaukee V28.If your gun is in good condition and you get a good price for it,you may get enough to go that route.

I have a snap on version as well as a harbor freight version. I have a 2000lb 1 incher and have not blown any 1/2 impact sockets...yet. I do agree that i am mis using my impact sockets however and take the necessary precautions.

I have a Snap On reducer from 1" to 3/4' and from 3/4'' to 1/2'' I've never seen on that goes from 1'' to 1/2 '' drive. I guess I prob never had a need for on though.
