Hello

I just purchased 2 Maxlite MLSEC14LED50 security lights.

They look like good quality lights except. I ordered 2. Both came with no installation instructions. It is a wall mount light only but it has no mounting holes. I guess just drill 2 holes in the back of the box?

Bigger problem is it has 5 wires inside plus 1 ground. I think I can make a good guess but WTF?

Does anyone have any experience with these?

It says it's "back and bottom are plugged with conduit holes for mounting and wiring flexibility".

You will probably have to take the fixture apart to mount and wire it...

Reading the "Features" on the web site, it says "Multiple Mounting Options... rear knockouts for mounting convenience."

You will have to knock out a knock out, and then you can bolt it to the wall with an appropriate fastener...

Should have a hot, neutral and ground wires. The other three are probably for the "Occupancy Sensor Compatible" option...

This is a case of a commercial/industrial light where they assume if you're installing one of these you already know what you're doing, so no instructions are necessary.
Just like exit/emergency lights. I've never seen "instructions" come with them either.

Yes, you have to drill your own mounting and wiring holes. Inside should be very obvious where to do this.
As for the wiring, the leads should either be certain colors, or be marked as to what they are. For a "120V only" light there should be two 120V leads. They may very well both be tan colored with writing on them. Then a ground somewhere. The others might be for a photocell. Every light like this I have installed was either POC ready or came with one.

I think you hit this right on the nose. After closer inspection I find that the wire nuts twisting the wires together are not really wire nuts but are clip on type wire nuts that have a whole for each wire twisted together. There are only three of these wire nuts that have an open hole left ground, white and black. Connecting to any of the other wire would require purchasing new twist on wire nuts. So with the open nuts on the correct color scheme I feel confident that I'm not going to fry my $140 lights.

As for the mounting. Looking from the inside there is a pattern of cast in but not drilled holes that would line up with a box and two other cast in location that I will drill and use to screw it to the wall.

I did not realize that about industrial fixtures not coming with directions. I did check on line and no directions are available. I was also not too happy that I had to wait until I received the lights to figure out where the wires come in before drilling the hole for the wires or to mount a box. I'm glad I did not guess on that because the wires come in at the bottom half of the box and get routed to the top within the fixture. I would have drilled my hole for the box 6" too high which may or may not have worked out. A drawing of this online would have been a big help.

Other than that they look like a quality light. I wont have these working for quite a while since the shop has no electricity. But I will post pictures when I get them installed.

Thanks to all.

Maybe a transformer , led's are usually low voltage. plus 3 wires for a photocell.

Yes there are the first two that anyone with any experience would eliminate right away. Those are the ones going to the transformer. I'm confident at this point with the white, black and green for ground. Which has been my guess all along. The only real question was the red and black twisted together but the connector for that pair doesn't have a space for an additional wire.

Yep you nailed it. You have em in your hand. Black(to sensor) , White(to sensor and transformer), Both appear to have open holes to slide in and lock down a wire. And a ground. The others zip tied are just from the driver transformer to the LED array. Ignore those. Pricey little connectors in there. Impressive.

Yes drill the chassis to fit your mounting solution. The potmetal is easy to drill.
