<$1 Parking Indicator

I got tired of my wife pulling to far into the garage and crowding my work bench. I wanted something to "guide" her, but didn't want the old hanging tennis ball or chucks on the floor.

I thought I would share my simple indicator that raises and lowers with the garage door... perfect parking everytime.
- Fishing Line
- 2 small eye bolts
- Indicator (ball, gromet, ect)

Simply drill a small hole in your garage door. Then open the door, install an eye bolt on the ceiling level above the open door. Position vehicle in desired location, then install the second eye bolt level above the center of the windshield. With door open, attach the fishing line to the door and thread through the eye bolts. Attach an indicator (I used a gromet) to the string so it barely hits the windshied. It will now raise and lower with the door.

That's exactly what I need. My wife insists on pulling up within 2 feet of the workbench and leaving 3-4 feet of empty space behind the car. Annoys the hell out of me.

Grandpa always used the "baseball on a string" trick in their garage, but his garage was never used as a shop and the ball didn't get in the way. I think I'll combine his idea and yours.... good stuff!

I've got the same thing but I use a tennis ball to touch the windshield.

My wife accused me of having "Too much time to think" when we built our home. Our attached garage is 24' X 38', 24 deep, so I placed a trough style floor drain length wise 6' in from the doors. It has a grate over it and most people who walk through there don't even notice that it is there. At 6' in when you feel the rear tires of the car hit it, you are where you want to be, shut it off. If you back into the garage, just stop when the front tires hit the drain. In the 10 years we have lived in this house, the only vehicle I have found that this doesn't work with is a 1-Ton Dually 4X4 extened cab with an 8' box. Virtually any car and even a 1/2 ton extended cab short box truck, 2 or 4 wheel drive, works great with this system.

I have one of those red-light laser systems from Canadian Tire - but Mrs. Etek - even though she races cars - can never get the red light dead-on...but it's normally within a foot or so...

My wife is only allowed to bring me refreshments in the garge. It's not attached to the house not hers. I'm the only one parking anything in it.
