I have a 3/4" drive CP pistol grip that I use for less demanding jobs, and that is plenty big for a pistol grip..
hautpot mentioned a torque multiplier.. I carry an X4 with when going on service calls.. They are a godsend when you have to rely on people power rather than air wrenches..
Mine was bought more for lower engine work and transmission and differential yoke nuts. They will definitely work on wheel lug nuts if properly set up with a proper height jack stand and proper length extension.... Mine has 1/2" input and 3/4" output, with a rating of 1000 ft/lbs of torque..There are bigger (and heavier) models, but mine is job matched for my uses.. There are torque multipliers specifically designed for use on large truck lug nuts.. They use a foot that goes against the next lug nut to keep them from turning the opposite direction,, Without that foot, they would need a reaction bar like my X4... I often chain that reaction bar.. Can any of these torque multipliers be used with an impact wrench? ? ? No,,,, Unless the instructions specifically say they were rated for impact use...
typical modern day 18 wheeler with hub pilot wheels has 100 lug nuts to tighten...
If that 18 wheeler still has the two nut ball and seat setup, there are 180 wheel nuts to tighten,,, but,,, to tighten the 80 inner nuts on the duals, you have to first loosen the outer nuts, then tighten the inner nuts, then the outer nuts.. That is 80 to loosen plus
180 to tighten... That is a bit of nut twisting to be doing without a good impact wrench that is comfortable to use.
