Does anyone know if there's a simple way to convert a single stage compressor to a 2-stage? I found a smokin deal on an 80 gallon single stage compressor, and the engine looks identical to some of the 2-stages I've found. I was hoping to save some $ and do a conversion. Any thoughts???

Thanks

You would be able to reuse the receiver tank and maybe the motor, but the compressor itself will not be the same. I have no idea what it would cost to buy a 2 stage compressor and install it but i doubt it would be cost effective.

Yes you can do it if the bolt pattern fits, the tank might have multiple holes drilled already. Then figure out the motor amps is really up to the task of driving the new pump and probably need a different pulley on the motor for it to work. HF has some pumps for cheap in their catalog not sure if they lasts.

IMO it can not be done. The 2nd stage uses a smaller piston to compress the higher pressure to the highest pressure. The same size piston would cause a overload on the 2nd stage.

Simple - dismount the single stage compressor and replace with a 2-stage compressor...
