Was the fitting flared by you? If so, what flare tool did you use?

The flare that leaked was a factory flare that came with the lineset.

But I went ahead and bought a Yellow Jacket Delux 45deg, 60278 flaring tool for R410-A linesets for future installs. This way I can cut the lineset to the correct length without any excess coiled up outside.

I reflare the factory fittings for the one I installed (first one) and my father in law use the unit regularly and haven't had a call back yet.

That's a nice tool and I looked into it but I couldn't justify the $100 difference over the standard eccentric flare tool, which is another popular flare tools. I bought mine locally at HVAC supply shop for about $40 like below.

I could set one of these up with an AC Inverter on a trailer..

I am researching the concession biz

Thanks for posting.

Brazed fittings sound like the way to go.

Jan. 31, 2019 Update.
Unit bought in June 2014.

Heat pump quit working yesterday in heating mode.
Inside unit was not blowing air thru the front vent.
No motivation to troubleshoot it as I don't use the room much.

I will troubleshoot when it gets a little warmer maybe in the 60s.

Well that kind of ***** but you did get almost 5 years out of it. Hopefully something easy. Report back when you can.

Weather warmed up to 60. Nice !
I hooked up the R410 gauge high side and turned on the unit, set temp to 70F.
Outside unit ran for a very short time and quit. HS pressure went up to just 150psi.
It was low on charge. It still has a micro leak in the flared fittings.
Went ahead and recharge the unit until the high pressure went up to about 300 psi and stopped to be safe. I will finalize the charge during the cooling season.

The indoor unit is now blowing hot air.

Is that leaking flare fitting one you made with the yellow jacket tool? Or, was it a factory flare?

Still the factory flare.
I have been planning on cutting the line set short to get rid of the excess line that was coiled up behind the unit.
Just can't find the time.
Maybe this summer.

I can say going on 5 years by June this year.
Lost charge in 4.5 years. Maybe a bad factory flare or fitting not torqued properly.
For $500, it's still worth it.

I had one leak out over about 2.5 years. Had a technician come out. He could not find the leak. Recharged. Been working since. He put some UV die in it to help find the leak next time I call him out.

People laugh and giggle about making proper flairs and using torque wrenches despite improper installation being the cause of most mini split failures.

2 of the 4 of my factory lineset flairs failed testing with a flair gauge and it is suggested that the factory flair nuts supplied with the unit be used. The flair nuts supplied with lineset are about 1/2 the weight of factory nuts.

4.5 years is a long time, 10 would have been better.

Are you still happy with this unit?

Still very happy at $500 over five years. Of course $500 is just the unit cost and does not include the line set, pad, electrical and installation labor. It's now putting out decent amount of heat after the recharge.
I will leak test and check the correct charge in cooling mode during the summer.

I installed the 18K version. I have nothing but great things to say about Blueridge (gree) and alpine homeair. I did the install myself and paid an electrician $200 for the 220V circuit and my friend from church did the evacuation and charge release. I installed mine 2/17 and it has worked without issue since then. Qualifier: I never use the heater, only the air conditioner. My garage faces east, has one window, is 505 sq feet with 8ft celinings and it will cool the garage down from 85 to 70 in about an hour. The only thing I wish it had was wifi, so I could turn it on remotely and have the garage cool by the time I got home.
