No I didn't have to drill anything out.
The hole is big enough all the way through that no further modification was needed. If I used an extension the stud in question would hit the extension. With the two sockets welded together it passes all the way through.
Applications are 8mm on older Acura drip rail mouldings. 10mm on Lexus drip rail moldings, Mercedes Benz rear bumper covers. 11mm on some Ford rear bumper covers.
