So for a while I've been seeing threads filled with grinder and vise stands that are purely awesome  I personally have a tiny little six inch Home Depot special Ryobi grinder, while it is not a very mighty machine it sees extremely heavy use in my shop mostly on the wire wheel. I've had it screwed to a shelf for a long time and use it that way but the wall likes to get in the way when its mounted like this. So clearly a severely overbuilt stand is the answer to my problem, issue is I want something original. For a while I've been trying to find the perfect base and yesterday it hit me. I spotted the old 10 bolt GM rearend out of a 70s flatbed laying half buried behind my shop. Me and my cousin cut the pumpkin out of the axle and turned the axle into a ATV trailer axle, ever since the pumpkin has been laying half buried out behind my shop. I of course immediately got it out of the ground and onto my bench to begin taking it apart, sure enough with all the gears out it lays flat on the bench :bounce: While Im sure somebody has done it I have never seen a stand with a rearend for a base so hopefully I'll meet my goal of being original :dunno:

Today I found some 1/4'' wall pipe that fit down into the pumpkin and found a larger piece that slipped over that pipe. The larger piece was to be a collar to weld to the rear end and then to weld the pipe to the collar, I also found some 1/4'' plate to make a base for the grinder and some gussets. All that's left is to cap the axle tubes and paint it up...Edit: Pictures are the right way on my computer, only rotate when put in here :dunno:

Haha Been waiting for that one since I posted  Believe me, first decent grinder to pop up in my price range and that Ryobi will be gone with the wind :willy_nil

Went to cap the axle tubes today and realized I was out of welding wire :willy_nil Oh well, they don't look too bad anyways I guess. Proceeded to wire wheel it all down and paint it, was going to do all matte black as usual but decided to put some accent on the pumpkin. Tomorrow I will drill the mounting holes and start putting it to use

The axle holes will make a nice entrance for the mice.

A Ryobi grinder on a Chev housing stand is a match made in Heaven! :p

Couldn't resist!

I actually have a little white weasel that runs in every time I leave the shop doors open, he hides in every nook and cranny then pops out and runs to another one. Eventually I get sick of playing his game and chase him out, he is going to love this new tunnel I just created :lol_hitti Now on the Chevy/Ryobi note, I will be sure to update you guys on which breaks first  Come on its not like I could sacrifice a Dodge rear end :willy_nil
