Are you talking about a type of wire, if so I would get a #4 thhn to pull the whole way, it has a slippery covering that you don't even need lube to pull it and more flexible than aluminum but more money

Too start over. Pull the current wire and replace with one piece from the main to the sub without splices. Of course 4 wire.

We could never get the 6" of extra wire in the splice box at the current cut lengths.

You can get away with such a shallow trench? I go deeper for communication cables.
The part in the garage looks right. Looks like plenty of outlets. Di you run some over to the other walls? Or is that a future project.

IIRC there's no frost line in AZ.

Maybe a heat line. The water line to the house is about 8" deep and from July to September we can't get cold water into the house.

The PVC is buried 24"

I wouldn't replace the wire you have now. Just a waste of money as long as your splices are tight you won't have any problems. Yeah technically the boxes are to small but you will prob never have to touch them again and if you do then replace it later. For now I would try and snake the ground in or leave it as is just bond the grounds and neutrals in sub panel if you decide to leave it.

Update: pulled the wire bundle back to the main panel, added a #6 green wire and pulled thru. Still have to make connections on both ends. And ground the EMT.

See it wasn't to hard lol. Also you don't have to ground the emt,it's allready grounded unless your talking because there's pvc j-boxes.

The metal J box and conduit running along the wall do not have an attached bonding wire. It does have #6 bare copper from the sub laying in it and then goes thru a drilled hole to the grounding bar.

It's a code violation to add a separate conductor along with an assembled cable. If the existing SER is 3 conductors, it needs to be replaced with 4 conductor SER.

No flame on the poster, but I recall reading this post. Yes, he pulled a seperate wire and should alleviate the majority of your concerns. However, I'm curious regarding the post above. When all said and done, is the current run the way the OP code approved or not *either it had to be a 4 wire or 4 thhn's"

Post #3, pic number 2 & 3 show the jboxs and emt that runs along the garage wall. I would think this metal would need a separate bonding wire back to the sub. dynamics, that quote was for the stranded SER bundle.
