100 Amp Sub-panel Feed

Howdy Folks,

I'm finally out of the ground and framing my second story. I have an electrician coming to run a new feed for my bathroom remodel so I'd thought I'd get him to hook up the feed to my sub-panel in the garage.

Garage is 24 x 28, 2-stories (storage/possible apartment above), one two-post lift, welding, lighting, etc in garage. Sub-panel is 100 Amp. Garage is about 80' from the service panel (200 Amp). I'd like to get everything here for him to maximize his time. What size feed wire from my service panel to my sub should I buy? (It'll be buried)

Since you have an electrician you should ask him what wire is needed and how it should be wired. Too many variables to get a definite answer in a web forum.

If u hired an electrician usually they would supply the materials.

Least expensive is Mobile Home Feeder, 4 wire good for 90A. Runs about $1.75/ft at the big box.

Yeah... I just helped my son do a side job where the owner bought all the materials just for simple new circuit for a stove and everything he purchased was wrong. My son commented he hates it when the owner buys the materials because most of the time it's wrong and it ends up taking him twice as long to get the job done having to go get what's needed.

Good comments. I just wanted to be ready so he didn't have to go to town. I'm out on a mountain so nearest supplies are 20 miles away.

I shy away from customers that want to buy everything. Its a PITA as youve pointed out.

For side jobs I won't supply anything. I tell the customers what to buy or I go with them. Keeps it simple.
