100 amp subpanel

I have read tons of information and everyone seems to say something different so I am hoping I can get some agreement at this forum.

I have a 200 amp main panel and adding a 100 amp subpanel to run a 60 amp spa, shop with saws, shaper, jointer, outdoor lighting and a small hair salon. Both panels are located in my basement. Nothing is underground and all wire will be run though open joists in ceiling. What kind and size do i need for copper or for aluminium wire?

A #1 aluminum SER cable would be the cheapest and easiest to run. It has 2 hot conductors, 1 neutral conductor and 1 ground conductor. Remember to keep your equipment grounds and neutral's isolated from each other in the sub panel. Neutrals on neutral buss and grounds on a ground bar, and don't install the bonding screw or strap. If for some reason aluminum is not allowed in your area, then a #3 copper SER would work. Its always good to check with your local codes.

Not sure what you mean with ‘everyone says something different.’

You only have 2 choices here- SER as said above or individual conductors in pipe.
