A mechanic is another shop in my company bought the 56" HF so i gave him 100$ for his old waterloo. Im not sure if i overpaid or not considering it has friction slides but i like it! The casters are all banged up and i probably have to straighten out the floor a bit but ill reinforce the floor with some 3/4" plywood. Im thinking ill go a nice flat black on the box. Ideas?

If you worked in the shop next to mine and you wanted to sell me that box for $100, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I don't think you overpaid.

Whatever new color scheme you go with, post pictures!

same exact thing as our work boxes (craftsman), except the craftsman have ball bearing glides, you could probably order ball bearing slides and replace them pretty easily. they just snap in if i remember

Good deal. I probably wouldn't paint it unless it you have major internal rust issues. I highly doubt it is going to be economical or even possible to convert that box to ball bearing slides. Take a picture of the slides but I'm pretty sure they use a completely different hanging mechanism with a different clearance. I'd just clean, straighten and use it for what it is, a good cheap box.

I'm pretty sure they still make that box or a similar one for ~$600 ish.

when you out grow it, you will make money on selling it...

if you outgrow it, don't make money on it. keep track of any repairs or mods you make to it, add that to $100 and sell it to a young mechanic who needs a box. Pay it forward. The guy who sold it to you knew he was giving you a deal, it's not like you're going to get rich flipping it.

Use it until it no longer servers your needs, then pass it on to the next generation.

I out grew my classic 96 haha! i was going try to sell it, pay off what i owed with the money and buy the 56" top/ bottom but i paid off my box so i figured id just buy an additional smaller box. I went to one of our other locations to cover for their foreman who was on a leave of absence and one of the mechanic was emptying out the box. There are two other younger mechanics in the shop and this is their first real job wrenching. He offered them to have the box for free, figuring he'd be hooking these kids up and they both didnt want it. I told him that it was a shame and threw him a hundred bucks and threw it in my truck. Their loss! But the friction slides had metal tabs that bend up and you push them in with a flathead to remove. I doubt you can find BB slides or if it would be worth it. I kind of like the idea of the box costing $100 plus paint, casters and a sheet of plywood. love to have a sweet looking cool old box for under $250!

Wouldn't be worth the hassle of BB slides. It's a good box and a great deal the way it is.

What you could buy new for that same $100? Nothing at all decent.

100$ or $100

Is this a new trend or what?
Been noticing it a lot lately

No haha it's not that I know of. If I catch myself doing it I correct it but I guess my mind justifies it because you say hundred dollars so I put the sign after. Honestly I'm not sure why I do it haha
