The deal is humbug. Not available in any nearby stores, and not available to be shipped. So, not available (to me at least).

They are not great bits for metal and just okay for wood, and I think they're often priced at $10 for the set. I have the same Skil version I bought from Lowes for $10 a while ago, but I have also seen the exact set with other brands. IE here it is branded "MaxTech" for $12.99 regular price, Menards sale price would be at least $10 if not less.

I was at the Lebanon, TN store today (headed south on 231). They did not have any, but did a store search and found 5 at the Smyrna, TN store. They called over and had one put on hold for me, only a few miles out of the way, so I swung by and got one. I could not find these searching on line, they found them on the in-store computers.

Walmart had the same deal in December when I picked up my bulk box. They aren't good bits for metal, but are fine for hobby or house work. The price was certainly affordable and I don't worry about missing a bit now.

The 100 bit sets have been restocked @ $9.97 at a store in St. Louis MO according to their online search.

There are none in stock within a few hundred miles of me, so these must be a regional or specialty item.

The thing that caught my eye was the description of "Precision forged".

Twist drill bits are almost certainly made from *drawn* steel wire which is ground then hardened.

We can dismiss the word "precision" as having no specific technical meaning, but "forged" does describe a specific desirable process that generally improves a metal product. Many here would know the claim to be false, but they typical buyer wouldn't.

Where is the consumer protection? Basically there is nothing that can be done about blatantly false product claims.

Thanks for the info. Does your statement ( follows) mean waste of $ for home/occasional user? Will a sharpener work on them? Thanks.

Try checking out Walmart sites. My local store doesn't have them, but the one close to Lowe's does. Go to walmart with a copy of the lowes page and have them price match.

Thanks Bolster.

Just a hint on Lowes website, dont enter your zipcode. It will limit the search results based on a radius of your location.

Whoa, I just checked my link to make sure it was working. The price is a sale price now.

It's not $12.99 but $6.99

I need to check my receipt and see what they charged me, I might have to get a price adjustment.
