100% solids epoxy resin base coat

Hi everyone

I got a great deal on a 100% solids epoxy resin base coat and just wanted to put a polyurethane coating over it.

I can't get the same brand as it is made in Houston and I live in Canada so shipping cost are very expensive. It is made by Polyspec USA and is an expensive industrial coating.

Anybody have an experience putting a clear coat over a different manufacturers product?

Make sure you have both A and B components. I have heard of cases where union guys skimp on products just to sell it to people. Little do they know they arent getting a kit but just part of it. Before you know it you'll have a gooey mess.

If you do have both components, then maybe you'd want to get a compatible primer for it. Usually most 100% solids are self priming but in most cases would cause bubbles or out gas while penetrating into your concrete. Using chips would eliminate this.

While I know most manufacturers frown on using other manufacturer products on theirs, due to compatibility, I have been doing it for years and havent had a problem. Any good polyaspartic or polyurethane form an industrial manufacturer should work.

Thanks for your input. I do have A & B and did a test application on the floor and it is a basecoat and adheres excellent.

On the same note do you think I can apply a color coat from another manufacturer (before clear coat) as long as it is a 2 part epoxy??
