I absolutely love vintage barns, interior and exterior, so when I had the chance to bring some in our home, I jumped on it. Started off running thick strips of 3/8 plywood down each stud so I had more surface to nail to. Painted black so you can't see through any holes or cracks in the wood. Then the fun began! Didn't realize how much scrap would be produced but it was well worth it. Also helped that a local place called Michigan Barnwood and Salvage had plenty of wood in stock that was already cleaned and denailed. Here's some pics....

That looks really good. I have an old barn that I'm using as my shop and used some of the wood that was lying around to cover up my doors that I built. It's a great look.

Looks great! How much did you pay for the wood if you don't mind saying?

We just remodeled our kitchen (see thread below) and I saved all the old unusable wood floors in it to make projects. We have 3 farms in the family and have torn down some various sheds over the years so I have quite a bit of wood on hand to play with.
A pantry I built for our canned goods.

Also used it around our entry.

Awesome use of materials ! That pantry is pretty slick! I needed around 150 square foot and had about 50 from barns around town so I had to buy 100 at 2.50 a square foot.

Thanks and that's about the going rate it seems for barnwood.

If you don't mind I think I'll start a thread about barnwood projects and I'll reference you also for the idea. I think they'll be some neat stuff posted over time.

Did you debug the barn wood before installing it? There was a thread here a while back that someone mentioned buying reclaimed barn wood and getting a serious bug condition in their home after doing the wall. I think termites hatched but can't remember the specifics.

Yeah I got this stuff called bora-care or something like that, you spray it on and it's odorless, and not toxic to humans.

Termite holes are pretty easy to spot so yes, obviously have that stuff treated first. Most of the sheds we tore down were for that very reason.

That looks really good. I like the different colors and weathering. I've been looking for some affordable stuff myself to make a wine rack and maybe a back splash out of but right now there is a huge demand for the stuff.
