It would help if you had your location in your profile or your signature. If you are on the east coast, it won't help much if someone finds on of the west coast for you, shipping would kill ya.

All you need is a 1000 gal fuel tank unless you have some zoning or other regulations governing fuel/oil tanks. If you are in a rural area, try farms sales or fuel suppliers to farmers. Around here, they typically sell for about $1/gal used.

I have to say I cannot imagine why you want to go oil here. I'd contact the utility or LP vendor and see what type deal you can get on gas. You have any number of vendors of tanks in your area if you do go oil. FW Webb, granite Group, Bell Simons and others. All were customers of mine. You will likely end up with a Tank manuf by Granby.

Is it legal for you to have a 1000 gallon tank where you are. Is it inside or outside? Flame shield will be higher than just a double wall tank but local codes you may have to have it. I'd check with John W Kennedy in E Prov. RI for a quote on a tank

I dont think its legal to have a 1k tank in NE CT. I thought the limit was 2, 275 gallon tanks.

well I use to be in that business and a 1000 gal double wall flame shield tank would run about $2500.00 complete. Now a fireguard tank would run that much. The differance between a fire guard and a flame shield is a UL 142 vs a UL2085 listing. We sold highland tanks a flame shield was a regular UL142 tank with a sticker saying flame shield. the fire guard was a tank with a concrete slurry filled interstitual space and the tank was much heavier

i didn't know about limits but I'll check with the town, Ill look into some farm equipment and whatnot. For what we use and how much of it, it doesn't make sense to go to gas with cash on hand, maybe when economy improves

Wouldn't a LP company lease you a tank for free with a contract? They do that here. Then you aren't buying a new tank, so you can buy a new/better furnace instead? Unless you've got a cheap source of oil, I don't see how the economics can make sense...

Used tanks go super cheap at farm sales here. I bought one with diesel in it for $5 once. Got a loader to put it in my truck. Filled my oil tank and a good chunk of a barrel. Put it out front by the highway and got $70 for it on day 2.

I have switched to gas and have a house size one you can have but it is in Saskatchewan.

How long does it take to use 1000 gallons of oil? Fuel oil does not get better with age and they deliver oil every day. Maybe you could go with a smaller tank and more frequent deliveries, ensuring fresh oil. In NYS, DEC requires registration (at a cost, of course, and with inspections and potential fines) for any piece of property with storage capacity of 1100 gallons or more of petroleum products. A 1000 gallon fuel oil tank would not leave much capacity left for any other necessary tanks if your rules are similar. The 1100 gallon limit is storage capacity, not the amount actually stored. Consequently, if I had a 1000 gallon tank and another 100+ gallon tank that was used to store a single gallon of petroleum, registration would be necessary.
