I'm trying to brighten up an area of my shop that is about 20x60. Currently have a few T8s installed but not nearly enough. I found some 1000w MH high bay lights on craigslist for cheap, I was thinking about mounting three of them in a row over the 60 feet. They would be about 14' high.

Would this be too bright? I would guess these lights are meant to be mounted a bit higher than 14'. Should I tone it down to 400w fixtures? The T8s and MHs will remain on different switches so I don't have to use the MH all the time...

I agree that 400's would be the right choice, I have a 70X35 area with three 400 MH @ 18 feet that is used to wrap semi trailers and the lighting is very good.
