10G wire for 15A outlet?

They are not listed for solid wire, nor for connection to a wiring device.

I would just use that. Although I would let the homeowner know there is a fuse in there. Ben

So long as it is a duplex or triple receptacle. A single 15Amp receptacle (not very common) would not be acceptable with a 20amp breaker if there were no other receptacles on the circuit.

Quick update: My friend had the builder handyman team doing hourly rate extra "stuff" for her. They ran a new 15A (14g) line from behind range in kitchen, down to unfinished basement, to panel. She didn't have a breaker at the time, so they simply left the new wire unconnected in the panel.

10 min job for me to strip the 14g wire, add a 15A breaker. She's up and going w/ her new gas range.

Interesting that the inspector singed the inspection sticker w/: "Basement unfinished, 20 circuits". It'll be pretty clear when its inspected if/when she sells that an extra circuit was added w/o inspection.

Oh good deal, that will make it nice. Did they just surface mount the outlet box, or did they mount it into the wall?

They mounted into the wall w/ a retrofit box. They did a pretty clean job.

If someone notices an extra circuit during home inspection time at sale; it would surprise the hell out of me.

Glad the outlet was able to be added on a dedicated breaker.

Yeah, me too. But,I thought pretty clever for the city inspector to note it that way. I've haver seen that before.
