I would be willing to put a bet on it that it is, it was very common for them to have a lower "flap door" and not drawers. In fact, it may still be there hidden!

That's what I get for adding a post that sat for about half an hour! I do hope you take the time to restore the tool box, it would look stunning when finished. I have always loved the round corner tool boxes. In fact, it's my favorite feature on my Snap-On box!

With the weather warming up its time to tear into this puppy. I had a 12x12 section of roof come down over the winter so the roof is pretty high on the priority list. Roll off dumpster comes tomorrow, time to get rid of some ****!

Here is a better shot of the main floor

Excellent project! I am glad you are starting to update your work on it. I guess it was a car dealership originally. Does it have a car elevator in it? I love old car dealerships, my brother in-law's father owned one that I used to work at in the 80's. It had an elevator that took cars into the basement and up to the 2nd floor. Keep the pics coming and good luck on the project.

Unfortunately no elevator (or maybe fortunately!) It began its life as a Ford Mercury Edsel dealer. Afterwards it became Dorans garage (inspections)

I did find a neat hoist in the basement made by Ford Motor Block Co. Philadelphia. I will post some pics once I can get it in the light.

There is also a hoist trolley running the width of one of the upstairs beams that would make it a nice home once cleaned up!

Unfortunately the water damage has ruined several other neat things I have found. On the other hand though, if it weren't for the water damage I probably wouldn't have been able to buy the building :)

Any ideas on why the building is so long and NARROW? Was it done to fit on a narrow lot? Where are the doors situated? How would one move vehicles in, out and around in a space like this? Do you have any pics of the exterior from a farther distance?

You are right in the fact it was built to fit the lot. I have a pic on my phone I will load soon. A couple of guys stopped by the other day who worked there and I guess there were a few cars on display but most cars bought were ordered in. Dunlaps also had a dealership in the next town over so they may have used this location for more service than sales.

Here is a shot from across the road. I'm actually glad the building is narrow because it makes reframing the trusses SO much easier and cheaper. An interesting side note - the house to the left is currently up for short sale. If it goes full blown foreclosure I'd love to snag it and make a side lot.

Haha I don't own the firehouse but it is for sale along with the bar beside it. Hell the whole street is for sale! Problem is they are for sale by owner and I'm sure they want a pretty penny.

Sure anyone's welcome to stop by!

I didn't really find much in the cleanup. A couple sockets, a couple SK wrenches, and one of those old time oil spouts for the old cans. It was pretty decent so I will probably clean it up.

Not much got done today with the rain. The floor is on the auto rinse cycle!

Nice buy! I'm just down the road in State College and work in real estate. You already made money on the place!

Awesome, with the new road your almost a local!

I just did the EIFS on the new addition @ PJ Harrigans, so I get over your way once in a while.
