A little bit at a time. Each year we try to do one major project. This year will likely be plastering the interior walls and insulating the ceiling. I need to get these soffits finished before that though as the damn pigeons think this is a great place to hang out. The owl only worked for so long lol.

I had a pigeon problem. Saw a card at a restaurant "Free Pigeon Removal". I called and asked him what he did with them, he set me straight his name was John Free. I didn't hire him. Had bird hunter friends come out and pop a few. It made the others mad and they said if we were going to be killing them they'd just live somewhere else.

Probably not a solution where your shop is.

So far the furnace seems to be working as planned. I set the thermostat to 42 last night and low and behold it was 42 in there this morning. It was down in the high teens low 20s last night. It seems to be cycling at a reasonable rate (I was worried it would just run constant and not shut off) despite the current lack of insulation. It was off when I got here this morning and has only kicked on once for about 8 minutes so far.

Currently it is set at 140k btu but is adjustable up to 175k. Still debating on having it bumped up.

I plan on partitioning the shop halfway with a warehouse curtain eventually as the only thing I really need to keep above freezing other than me when I'm working on something is my bucket materials. Times that I'm working on something I can just open the curtain and crank it up.

So far so good.

How thick are the exterior walls on your building ? Are they solid brick ? Do you think you got any "thermal mass" residual heat on warm winter days and cold nights ?

(Nephew just bought a commercial property that is about 100 years old and has wall that are 3 brick thick. "Experts" keep saying he does not need to insulate because they will provide thermal mass and not transfer heat to the outside. Sounds like BS to me !)

The walls are 2 layers of solid brick. I do think they radiate SOME heat on a sunny warm winter day but more often than not the only thing they radiate is cold!

So far the taxes have stayed the same.....so far......
