I have a 20x20 or so garage that is insulated nicely. I do not need the garage to be 60deg, but in the 50's would not be bad the 1 day a week I will in there for a few hrs. I am not sure if I will have the juice to run a 220v line as I am pretty much going to be close to my limit. When we do our addition, all new power will be run to the house and increase the 100amp service.

There are two choices I have found...a Berko JRK - Single Element Infrared Heater http://www.berkomeh.com/develop/prod_pdf/bulsub/ZBL-BJRKA.pdf

or an Electromode (Dimplex) EU series unit http://www.dimplex.com/images/pdfs/electra_ind_unit.pdf which is a 3KW 10236 BTU unit.

What would you recommend, knowing that I have to stay 110V. I would put one of the Berko units over the shop side, but may be an issue on the car side while working, where the Dimplex unit would heat the whole garage.

ooooorrrrr no matter what, put a 220v line in. (BTW, a gas line is too far to feasibly run to the garage, and I won't do a kerosene unit. This is the only other possibility...The Mr Big Buddy heater... http://www.mrheater.com/productdetails_extended.asp?catid=41&id=116

I built houses for a large builder in northern VA. One of our models had its sales office in the converted garage. The garage was fully insulated. The salesman's office was about 15x15. I was quite surprised how nicely one of those oil filled radiator type heaters did (110v on a 20amp circuit) on knocking the chill off and keeping the temperature comfortable.

My friend also does the same thing in his wood working shop and has 2 or 3 of these types of heaters in his space which is about 20x30 and 16 tall. In the middle of Virginia winter, his shop is in the low 60's. He leaves them on 24/7 at a mid-range setting in the winter.
